IYO Sky got some help from a WWE fan while performing a high-risk move on Monday Night RAW.
The April 27 episode of WWE RAW featured IYO Sky answering Becky Lynch’s open challenge for the Women’s Intercontinental Championship. Lynch tried to escape, saying she wanted to fight the best, and called Sky the Marty Jannetty to Rhea Ripley’s Shawn Michaels. However, General Manager Adam Pearce came out and made the match official.
Both superstars put on a good back-and-forth performance at the event. One of the spots saw the action spill outside, where IYO Sky climbed up the barricade. She then took some help from a fan at ringside to maintain her balance before hitting Lynch with a flying crossbody.
As IYO Sky gained momentum during the final moments of the match, Asuka interfered. The disruption was enough for Becky Lynch to take advantage by hitting Sky with a Manhandle Slam for the win.
The Empress of Tomorrow locked IYO Sky in the Asuka lock after the match, making her pass out. A loud “We want Kairi” chant broke out among the fans during the segment, as WWE recently released Kairi Sane, who played a significant role in Asuka’s feud with Sky.
WWE then made Asuka vs. IYO Sky official for the Backlash PLE, which will take place at the Benchmark International Arena in Tampa, Florida, on May 9. The promotion reportedly planned for this match to take place at WrestleMania 42 Night 2, but postponed it to Backlash due to time constraints.
IYO Sky had a close call on last week’s WWE RAW and walked away without sustaining serious injury after performing a similar high-risk move.
