The Miz is a pretty likable guy, but he might just be a better villain.
WWE Superstar The Miz officiated five weddings in Las Vegas on WrestleMania 42 weekend. The Miz and the five lucky couples took part in a WWE-inspired wedding ceremony at the famed Viva Las Vegas Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas.
During an interview after the ceremonies took place, WrestleZone Managing Editor Bill Pritchard asked The Miz what his secret to a successful marriage was. Miz said listening is key, and shared how something as simple as putting his phone away opened up new lines of communication while he was at The Masters golf tournament.
As a follow-up, Pritchard noted how Miz has been doing more social media content recently. This includes his video where he tried the items on the infamous Masters Concession Menu. Miz came off more relatable here, a contrast to the bad guy he plays on WWE programming. Does he want to add that “good guy” aspect to his on-air persona?
The Miz might just be too good at his job as a WWE villain
“I guess it’s what the fans do. I always rely on listening to not only my wife, but to my fans [too]. If I hear the fans doing something, then I’ll lean into it,” The Miz explained. “But they kind of don’t do that for me, right? You don’t ever hear of a MizMania, like a KofiMania, or how Daniel Bryan, they got behind him, or even Jey Uso when they got behind him.
“Even right now, they’re getting wildly behind Trick Williams. That doesn’t happen to me and my character, and I don’t know why,” he continued. “I really don’t. I guess maybe it’s because I’m just really good at my job and making people hate me whenever I need them to hate me. But I can make them love me as well. I guess sometimes it’s easier to be the bad guy. It’s a lot more fun, too.”
The Miz is still trying to catch his breath
Wedding bliss was the theme of the day, and Miz was also asked to pick the greatest wrestling couple ever… outside of himself and Maryse, that is.
Miz said you could pick Triple H and Stephanie McMahon, or Randy Savage and Miss Elizabeth. You could even go with a modern couple like Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch. No matter who you pick, Miz noted, WWE is still the thing that ties everyone together, and each couple has been magic in its own way.
“I’ll never forget the first time I saw Maryse,” Miz shared. “It was on the Diva Search. I was a host, she was a contestant. I’ll never forget as soon as I saw her walking to the convention center that we were in, literally my breath was taken away. It’s still taken away to this day.”
