Kevin Nash didn’t like how his comments were framed in Netflix’s new Hulk Hogan documentary. Director Bryan Storkel has now responded to Nash, sharing his disappointment about the WWE legend’s statement.
Storkel spoke with WrestleZone Managing Editor Bill Pritchard about his role as director on Hulk Hogan: Real American. The four-episode documentary series was recently released on Netflix, focusing on the life of Hulk Hogan, also known as Terry Bollea. It featured interviews from Hogan himself, as well as names like WWE’s Cody Rhodes and Bruce Prichard, and current United States President Donald Trump.
Kevin Nash recently said that he was upset over his nearly three-hour interview being cut down to about “30 seconds” of airtime. Nash also said that one edit made it sound like he was putting Hogan down, when he only meant to communicate how Hogan inspired him to start wrestling.
Hulk Hogan: Real American’s Bryan Storkel was disappointed in Kevin Nash’s feedback
Storkel said he was “bummed” about Nash’s feedback, noting how much he enjoyed interviewing the WWE legend for the project.
“A couple [people in the wrestling business have reached out]. Cody Rhodes reached out through someone else and said he loved it. I’ve been seeing other posts from people online. I saw that Kevin Nash wasn’t so happy, that headline,” Storkel said. “With him, I’m bummed because I’m like, ‘Man, he was such a good f**king interview.’ And I say f**king because he would say that a lot.
“I enjoyed his interview so much. And if I could have put a lot more of it in, I would have. He was the most fun to talk to out of almost any of them,” Storkel added. “I’m bummed that I wasn’t able to do more, but I think he also got more than 30 seconds of screen time. You use people where you can. And we had other stuff with him, but it ended up getting cut, unfortunately, but I loved talking to him.”
Storkel wishes viewers saw more, but the focus was on Hulk Hogan’s story
Pritchard noted how fans would probably love to see extended footage that didn’t make the cut. Storkel agreed that some interviews, like Nash’s, would be engaging. However, it was important to stay on task and add what he could to the main story.
“His interview on its own would be great. Warner Herzog talking for an hour about Hulk Hogan and reading from The Illiad, comparing it to wrestling, his interview is incredible. There’s a few where I was [thinking] I wish you could just listen to that hour, but it wasn’t the Kevin Nash or Warner Herzog movie either, so you have to lean into the story points.”
