A top WWE star has offered a revealing look at the origin of one of the company’s most explosive finishers, linking it not to the ring — but to the gridiron.
The insight came ahead of a major showdown. This adds another layer to a move that already hits like a highlight reel every time it connects.
In this case, the roots of the move run deeper than WWE — and they start well before the first bell.
Bron Breakker explains his Spear’s origins ahead of WWE Backlash match
Bron Breakker spoke on SportsCenter about how his signature Spear developed, pointing directly to his football background as the foundation.
“I think it just stems back from my football career, I was a defensive guy… I played linebacker… sort of like a hybrid safety linebacker kind of guy that could play in the box and… in space with skilled players,” Breakker said
That experience translated naturally into his in-ring offense. “I feel like I’ve just been doing this spear my entire life,” he added. “It’s at this point it’s second nature to me… it’s pretty cool that I can sort of bring that experience from football and translate that over to wrestling.”
The result is a move that doesn’t just look impactful — it feels inevitable. Like a blitz you never see coming, Breakker’s Spear has become his calling card on WWE Raw.
While the Spear leads his arsenal, Breakker also uses the Steiner Recliner as a nod to his family legacy, along with a power-based offense that reflects his athletic background. Still, it’s the Spear that continues to define his matches — fast, direct, and hard to stop once it’s in motion.
The timing of his comments comes as Breakker prepares to face Seth Rollins at WWE Backlash. Their rivalry has escalated in recent weeks. The duo have engaged in multiple brawls on the May 4 episode of RAW that pushed tensions to a breaking point.
As the match approaches, Breakker’s explanation adds context to every charge across the ring.
