Matt Cardona is not giving up despite continuing his losing streak on SmackDown and growing criticism about how WWE has handled his return.
After his previous WWE release, Cardona rebuilt his name on the independent scene and reinvented himself as one of the most talked-about wrestlers outside WWE. His success led many fans to push WWE to bring him back.
Cardona later returned through appearances on NXT before officially signing a new WWE deal earlier this year. Expectations were high because his reputation had grown so much during his time away.
While Cardona got a strong reaction when he returned to the fold, that momentum has not led to many wins on TV. Instead of jumping into a major storyline, he has mostly been used in supporting roles.
Matt Cardona says he’s ‘not finished’ despite recent WWE losses
After losing on the May 8, 2026, episode of WWE SmackDown, Cardona posted a passionate message on X for anyone doubting his future in WWE. He tweeted–
“It took me almost 6 years to get back to @WWE…
You think losing some matches is going to stop me? LOL.
It’s not over until I quit…and that’s never going to happen.
I’M NOT FINISHED.”
Cardona suffered another loss on last week’s SmackDown after falling to Ricky Saints in a singles match. The match was competitive, and Cardona came close to winning, but Saints ultimately finished the match with the Roshambo.
The loss added to a rough stretch for the former Zack Ryder. Since beating Kit Wilson in his return match back in January, Matt Cardona is 0-6, mostly losing matches against rising stars and bigger names.
However, despite fan frustrations, Cardona’s comments show that he understands the situation and is still determined to keep pushing forward.
