Ronda Rousey Says Gina Carano Fight Will Have An Industry-Changing Impact

Former WWE star Ronda Rousey prepress for what she believes will be an influential MMA return.

Ronda Rousey will return to combat when she takes on former Strikeforce fighter Gina Carano this weekend at an event backed by Most Valuable Promotions. According to Rousey, this show isn’t just marking her personal MMA resurgence, but also has the potential to make an industry-wide impact.

“I would have killed to see Mike Tyson live, I would have killed to see Muhammad Ali live. Would have killed to see UFC 1 live. I believe that this event is historic on that level,” Rousey said on Face 2 Face. “It’s going to change the landscape of the entire sport forever. It’s going to be the best fight of me and Gina’s lives. I can’t speak for the other guys on the card, but this is the most stacked card I’ve ever seen. And this is the most I’ve seen anyone invest in one card.

“We’re not fighting just for ourselves, but for the future of the sport. What we does only matters because you watch, so we need you. We need you to be able to make the changes that we’re hoping to see happen. Hopefully you’re there. Hopefully you’re part of this because t’s incredible for us to be a part of and we want you to join us.”

Fans can tune into the fight Rousey-Carano fight as it airs live on Netflix on May 16. The event itself will emanate from the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles, California, with multiple other bouts on the card. One will pit Nate Diaz against Mike Perry in welterweight competition, while another will see heavyweights Rancis Ngannou and Philipe Lins face each other.
