WWE Still Has Not Finalized Key Details For John Cena Classic — Report

WWE’s John Cena Classic Tournament is reportedly still a work in progress.

After hoisting both nights of WrestleMania 42, WWE legend John Cena appeared at the Backlash PLE to deliver what he described as “history-making news.” He revealed plans for a new initiative called the “John Cena Classic,” an annual tournament that would see developmental talent getting opportunities against main roster stars. He also announced the introduction of a new championship associated with the concept.

The tournament will have a unique format, as the winner will not automatically become the champion. The fans will vote to decide the title holder, who may have lost, but given the title due to his hustle.

While fans continue to speculate when WWE will host the tournament, Wrestlevotes Radio (via Fightful Select) reports that it is still a work in progress. Sources mentioned that the promotion hasn’t nailed down a date or venue for the tournament yet, and that an early December time frame makes the most logistical sense with the company’s calendar and the one-year anniversary of John Cena’s final match.

A source also noted that Netflix immediately expressed interest in hosting the John Cena Classic on its platform, but WWE hasn’t finalized it yet. The report notes that very little about the concept has been locked in at this stage.
