WWE Star’s Reason For Avoiding Public Speaking Is Very Relatable

WWE Superstar Finn Bálor gets candid about why he avoids public engagements.

Appearing on What’s Your Story? With Steph McMahon, former Universal Champion Finn Bálor reflected on how he sees himself compared to other wrestlers like Cody Rhodes, explaining that different personalities naturally exist in the industry.

He noted that while Rhodes enjoys being expressive, entertaining, and the center of attention, he personally prefers a more reserved approach.

“I don’t know if there’s a reason. I think there’s different types of people in the world. Some people like to be the center of attention and like to have their voice heard, or like to tell stories, and I mean this with the greatest respect towards one of my colleagues Cody (Rhodes) but I feel like, although we love wrestling, we’re very different personalities, in the sense that when he enters the room, he wants to be the center of attention and likes to entertain and likes to tell stories, where I would rather not even enter the room,”

Finn Balor believes he expresses himself better in the ring

Bálor said he is more comfortable observing rather than being in the spotlight and feels he expresses himself better through in-ring performance than through speaking or media appearances. He added that this is why he has gradually stepped back from podcasts, interviews, and public speaking, even though he recognizes those activities can benefit a wrestler’s career.

“If I did, I just wanna blend into the background a little bit and just be an observer more than a participant. But it kind of contradicts everything with regards to wrestling because wrestling is how I express myself, and I feel like I express myself better physically with my performance than I do speaking. So, that’s why I’ve kind of, especially in the last couple of years, kind of shied away from doing media, podcasts, public speaking, everything. I love to wrestle. I know other things come with it and I know perhaps if I invested more time in the speaking part, I know it would be better for my career.” [H/T Fightful]

He acknowledged that he understands the promotional side of the business and will participate when required, but he is less enthusiastic about optional appearances like events or red carpets. Bálor emphasized that he enjoys wrestling itself and prefers focusing on performing in the ring and spending time with his peers rather than constantly being in front of a microphone or camera.
