TNA iMPACT Results

Tom Hannifan hypes up tonight’s main event featuring Mike Santana and Steve Maclin for the TNA World Championship, but first, we kick things off with The System.

Alisha Edwards begins the promo with her catchphrase. Eddie Edwards says fans are looking at the most dominant faction in TNA history. Edwards references Cedric Alexander’s victory over Leon Slater for the TNA X Division Championship last week on TNA iMPACT. He says they made a statement and are now one step closer to taking all the gold. The crowd responds with “you suck” chants.

Edwards tells Santana to watch his back because he is coming after the gold. Brian Myers asks fans if they think the tag team division sucks. He calls Edwards the uncrowned heavyweight champion and a future TNA Hall of Famer. Myers says Edwards has been carrying the company on his back for over a decade.

Bear Bronson rips into the crowd, saying The System will eat alive anyone who dares step up. Cedric Alexander takes over the promo. He raises the title and brags about stopping Leon Slater from becoming the longest-reigning X Division Champion. Alexander says he became the record-breaker last week and calls himself the signature champion in TNA.

He complains about not being able to celebrate his big moment last week and calls out Fabian Aichner for a face-off. Aichner arrives and tells The System he came out here to claim he’s spot because he’s not a gimmick and that he wants for respect, redemption, and recognition. Aichner says the TNA X Division Title will look good on him and tells Cedric not to get comfortable.

The System tries to attack Aichner, but he evades the group and goes straight for Alexander, picking him up and slamming him into a chokehold. However, Alexander is dragged out of the ring by his stablemates as Aichner stands tall inside the ring.

Daria Rae fires up Steve Maclin

Daria Rae tells Steve Maclin that everyone loves to brag about loyalty in TNA, but she sees things differently. She claims everybody turned against Maclin when he put his hands on Tom Hannifan. While others saw Maclin as a liability, she saw the value in him.

She tells Maclin everybody fears him because they know what he’s capable of. More importantly, she understands why men like Maclin are built the way they are and what they are built for. She tells Maclin he has an opportunity tonight to “take out Mike Santana, rip the heart out of this company, and put the TNA World Title on someone who’s worthy of carrying it.”

Elayna Black vs. Indi Hartwell

Former TNA Knockouts World Champion Arianna Grace is on commentary for this match. Hannifan complains about Grace and Stacks making out right next to him.

The match ends in a no contest due to Grace’s run-in. She attacks Hartwell before tossing her out of the ring. Grace then complains about losing the Knockouts Title, claiming her father, Santino Marella, gave Lei Ying Lee the title shot because of his grudge against her.

Marella shows up and tells Grace it is “not cool” of her to be attacking Indi Hartwell again. He says Grace needs to be grounded and calls his daughter and Stacks “stinking pieces of garbage.” Santino gets into a confrontation with Stacks, who shoves him, only for Marella to bust out the Cobra.

Daria Rae interrupts and berates Marella for trying to get physical. She mocks Marella’s judo skills, calling it the weakest martial art and saying she would know because she’s a real fighter. Rae tells Santino to submit a formal request to the TNA board if he wants to get his hands on Stacks and tells him to get out of the ring. A dejected Marella walks away as Grace and Stacks start making out again.

Grade: B-

I don’t usually grade matches that end in a DQ, but the post-match confrontation between Santino and Grace/Stacks deserve some recognition. I also like that TNA protected both Hartwell and Black by giving the match a DQ finish. Santino is eventually going to get his hands on Stacks, and when he does, the iMPACT Zone is going to pop big time.

A message for The Elegance Brand

The Elegance Brand are in their dressing room, where Personal Concierge is praising Heather and M’s looks. PC explains that Ash By Elegance had to take some time off. Suddenly, the lights go out, and when they come back on, The Elegance Brand sees an ominous message on the mirror from Rosemary, Mara Sade, and Allie.

Matt Hardy vs. Vincent

The Hardys’ music hits, but Vincent interrupts with his promo. He says that wasn’t the tune he was expecting to hear, threatening to hijack production if Broken Matt Hardy doesn’t emerge. The lights go out, and we hear a familiar piano tune as Matt Hardy arrives to his Broken theme.

The referee gets knocked down. Vincent has the upper hand, but the lights go out and a creepy laugh is heard. The lights come back to reveal Jeff Hardy’s alter ego Willow standing behind Vincent. Willow attacks Vincent with an umbrella, allowing Matt Hardy to pick up the win with a Twist of Fate for the victory.

Winner: Matt Hardy

Grade: A-

Not a fan of the in-ring action, but the storytelling was incredible here. We witnessed the return of Matt Hardy’s Broken theme and Willow in the same night. It seems it’s only a matter of time before we get a cinematic match between The Broken Hardys and The Righteous.

A drifter walks alone

Elijah is playing his guitar backstage. AJ Francis walks up to him and tells him he is a fan. Francis says he genuinely hopes Mike Santana and Steve Maclin kill each other in TNA iMPACT’s main event tonight.

He then suggests a collab between himself and Elijah, who says he is not much of a tag team wrestler. Francis replies that he would not offer to be in a tag team with Elijah because he has already done that and his tag team partners always hold him back. He says he is thinking about a musical collaboration instead, since the hip-hop and country crossover is hot right now. Francis believes they can make “money, money, money” from the proposed project.

Elijah says that while he respects what Francis is doing, he is a drifter and a drifter walks alone. As Elijah walks out of frame, Francis takes off his glasses and issues a threat.

Champions Challenge next week on TNA iMPACT

Santino Marella announces the return of Champions Challenge. Next week’s TNA iMPACT will feature two Champions Challenges, one for the Knockouts and one for the TNA men’s division. The line-up will consist of TNA Champions taking on TNA all-stars in tag team action. The main event of tonight’s iMPACT between Santana and Maclin will determine who will walk into Champions Challenge as captain.

Daria Rae shows up and tells Marella he’ll get his match against Stacks next week. The System appear, and Eddie Edwards asks for a match against Fabian Aichner next Thursday. Daria Rae says that sounds like a great idea.

Mustafa Ali (c) vs. Chazz “Starboy” Hall – TNA International Title Match

  • The finish saw Mustafa Ali reverse Chazz Hall’s momentum into a pinfall attempt for the win.

Winner and still TNA International Champion: Mustafa Ali

Grade: B+

Mustafa Ali’s open challenge is such a brilliant concept for putting the spotlight on indie talent. On top of that, the in-ring action is spectacular. Ali is arguably the most dependable act in all of TNA.

As for the Denim Dragon Chazz Hall, tonight was my first time watching the kid work a match, and I was impressed. Having said that, my only problem with the match was that it should have got more time.

Keith Jardine and Mara Sade segment

Keith Jardine is taking a selfie with a fan when he is approached by Santino Marella. Santino says he is a big fan and tells the former UFC star he is his guest for the night.

Mara Sade appears and apologizes for the interruption. She introduces herself as a fellow Duke City resident before referencing Jardine’s confrontation with The Elegance Brand from last week’s TNA iMPACT. Sade asks Jardine to be in her corner for the Champions Challenge next week so she can take care of things in the ring while Jardine takes care of Mr. Elegance if he decides to interfere. Jardine agrees.

Steve Maclin has a choice to make

Eric Young crosses paths with Steve Maclin. EY tells Maclin he offered him a real opportunity, but he turned it down. Young says that after Maclin got fired, he turned himself into everything Young wanted him to be in the first place. He tells Maclin he found his way back and became the version of himself that Young always saw, and now he has a world title shot.

He blames “good guy” Mike Santana for trying to end Maclin’s career, saying Maclin disappeared after the injury. He tells Maclin this is his opportunity to prove him wrong because Young is the next number one contender. He claims he has told Maclin nothing but the truth and that he is his only friend here.

Young tells Maclin that win or lose, he gets to choose his fate. Maybe Maclin faces Young after beating Santana, maybe he disappears after losing, or maybe Young makes Maclin disappear. Choices have consequences, and Maclin has to make the biggest choice of his career tonight.

Xia Brookside vs. Jada Stone

  • The finish of the match saw Xia Brookside hit Jada Stone with a modified DDT called “Darkside” for the win.

Winner: Xia Brookside

Grade: B+

Better than the Knockouts match we witnessed earlier during the night. TNA clearly has big plans for Jada Stone, but she wasn’t winning tonight. Having said that, they really need to change Xia Brookside’s theme because it doesn’t suit her current presentation.

Steve Maclin is pissed

Mike Santana is on his way to the ring for the main event when he is confronted by Steve Maclin, who threatens to put Santana in the hospital. Maclin claims the TNA World Champion took six weeks of his career, took the food off his table, and money off his pocket when he injured him at TNA Sacrifice. Security tells them to save their energy for the ring.

Stacks and Arianna Grace cut a promo on Santino Marella. Lorenzo tells Marella to prepare for their match next week on TNA iMPACT. He claims Arianna doesn’t need Marella anymore because she has him in her life.

Mike Santana (c) vs. Steve Maclin – TNA World Title Match

  • The finish of the match saw Mike Santana hit Steve Maclin with Spin the Block for the win.

Winner and still TNA World Champion: Mike Santana

Grade: A+

After the incredible Leon Slater vs. Cedric Alexander main event from last week, we got another excellent main event tonight on TNA iMPACT. Mike Santana continues to be the standard bearer for TNA Wrestling. As for Maclin, he looked great in his first match in six weeks. I’m intrigued to find out what’s next for Maclin, especially after the ominous threats from Eric Young earlier tonight.

Overall Grade: A-

Another great episode of TNA iMPACT balancing storytelling and in-ring action to keep viewers engaged. One of the biggest moments from the night saw the return of Willow, setting up the stage for The Hardys’ eventual cinematic clash with The Righteous. Mustafa Ali put on another banger of a performance in his TNA International Title open challenge against Chazz Hall.

Daria Rae taking a shot at Santino’s judo background was funny. As for her background, she’s a legit fighter and could dogwalk most people in the locker room if she wanted to.

Match of the night was clearly the main event. Mike Santana walked out still the TNA World Champion, but Maclin brought the best out of him. That’s it for tonight, and this writer will be back with more coverage next week.
