Ludwig Kaiser is now facing complications outside the ring after a scheduled AAA appearance tied to his masked “El Grande Americano” persona was abruptly canceled this week.
The change comes just days before a major Mask vs. Mask showdown that already had fans circling the date on the calendar like it was Royal Rumble entry No. 30.
According to reports and court filings, Kaiser — whose real name is Marcel Barthel — was arrested on May 20 in Orange County, Florida, on a misdemeanor battery charge connected to an alleged incident at his Orlando apartment complex in April.
Police affidavits state that a neighbor confronted Kaiser and a female companion in an elevator, allegedly asking them to “please have some manners.” Investigators claim the situation escalated when Kaiser allegedly struck the man multiple times and pushed him to the ground.
Kaiser later turned himself in after learning of an active warrant. He has since pleaded not guilty and was released on a $1,000 bond.
Ludwig Kaiser’s AAA travel plans now in doubt
The legal situation quickly spilled over into wrestling business. Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide officially canceled the planned “Serenata for El Grande Americano” event scheduled for May 21 in Mexico City.
AAA released a short statement saying, “The ‘Serenata for El Grande Americano’ event scheduled for tonight in Mexico City has been canceled. We appreciate your understanding.”
While AAA did not publicly confirm the reason, the timing raised eyebrows faster than a surprise Money in the Bank cash-in.
Court documents reportedly show Kaiser’s legal team is seeking permission for domestic and international travel while the case remains active.
That request could directly impact AAA’s upcoming May 30 “Noche de Los Grandes” event in Monterrey, where Kaiser is currently scheduled to face Chad Gable in a Mask vs. Mask match under the “Original El Grande Americano” persona.
As of now, WWE has not publicly commented on the situation. Kaiser has continued appearing on WWE programming while the legal process moves forward, but his future AAA commitments may now depend on the court’s decision regarding travel approval.
