Likely Reason for Samoa Joe’s Extended Absence From AEW TV Revealed

Where is Samoa Joe going this summer?

On Wednesday’s special edition of AEW Collision, Samoa Joe revealed that he is stepping away from All Elite Wrestling for a few months after a “Hollywood” opportunity recently called for him.

According to PWInsider, that opportunity likely centers on season three of Twisted Metal, which is scheduled to begin filming in Canada in the imminent future.

Samoa Joe physically portrays Sweet Tooth in the series, while Will Arnett voices the character.

Per the city of Toronto, camera work for Twisted Metal will officially start on June 15 and eventually wrap up on August 26. This suggests that Joe may miss the AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door and AEW Redemption pay-per-views set for June 28 and July 26, respectively. All In, the promotion’s biggest PPV, will take place on August 30 in London, four days after Twisted Metal filming reportedly concludes. Whether or not Joe would be available to potentially return at All In, however, remains unclear.

In his absence, Joe has instructed his fellow Opps stablemates — Hook, Katsuyori Shibata, and Anthony Bowens — to hold things down in AEW. On May 24, the two-time AEW World Champion fell short to Will Ospreay in the opening round of the Men’s Owen Hart Foundation tournament at AEW Double or Nothing.

Twisted Metal season two, which dropped in 2025, reportedly “registered 993 million minutes viewed” on Peacock, making it the platform’s “second highest-reaching original returning scripted season.”
