Jacob Fatu is competing at WWE Clash in Italy, but an injury scare nearly saw him replaced on the show with a top WWE name.
Fatu had an injury scare during his Liverpool Street Fight against Solo Sikoa at Thursday’s WWE live event. According to PWInsider, the injury was legitimate, and WWE was keeping a close eye on his status ahead of his main event match with Roman Reigns at WWE Clash in Italy.
Fatu was seen limping after the live event. Despite the concern, WWE was moving forward under the assumption that he would still compete at the Premium Live Event. Despite that, Fightful (via Fightful Select) reported that WWE still came up with alternate plans in case he was pulled from the show.
An update from False Finish has revealed that one of the names pitched as a potential replacement was Drew McIntyre. It’s unclear how the match would have changed, considering it is being contested under Tribal Combat rules.
Why has Drew McIntyre been absent from WWE TV?
Drew McIntyre has been absent from WWE since WrestleMania 42, where he lost to Jacob Fatu in an unsanctioned match. Despite early speculation that McIntyre was out because of an injury or creative plans, he was in Scotland filming a new Highlander movie. McIntyre plays Angus MacLeod, brother of Henry Cavill’s Connor MacLeod, in the Chad Stahelski-directed movie.
Drew McIntyre traveled to Scotland to film shortly after WrestleMania. However, PWInsider recently reported that he has finished filming his scenes for the movie and ready to return to WWE.
Highlander is still completing principal photography, and the film still does not have an exact release date.
