WWE NXT Results:
Lizzy Rain vs. Zaria
Rain attacks Zaria as soon as the bell rings. Rain takes over after an enziguri, followed by a flurry of strikes. Zaria escapes a tornado DDT and lands a pump kick. Zaria works over Rain. Women’s North American Champion Tatum Paxley walks down to ringside to watch the match. After the break, Rain gets split in half by a spear from Zaria.
Rain fires up and lands a flurry. Zaria puts an end to that with a pop-up headbutt. Rain rolls Zaria into a pin. Zaria kicks out and destroys Rain with a discus lariat. Rain kicks at two. Rain Matrixes under a clothesline and hits a leaping Bubba Cutter! Zaria kicks out. Zaria reverses a springboard into a German suplex. Spear by Zaria. Zaria hits an F5 for the win.
Winner- Zaria
After the match, Zaria sets up Rain for another F5. Paxley rolls in and offers Zaria a title match next week to get her to leave the fallen Rain alone.
Grade: B
This match was fantastic. Rain is a heck of an underdog babyface. Rain fought from underneath and fired up like an 80’s territory babyface. Zaria’s mean streak came through here, with all of her brutal strikes and power moves. Go out of your way to watch this one. With that, the stuff with Paxley after was a bit silly. Why would Paxley offer up a title match? Paxley needed to offer Zaria rights and lefts. That’s how you stop an after-match beatdown. Odd stuff.
OTM vs. The Culling w/Izzie Dame
Nima and Price attack Spears and Vance. OTM is all over the Culling after their attack last week. Nima and Price beat down Spear until Vance tags in and lands a flurry on Price. Vance leaps over Price, but Price catches him with a nasty lariat. Vance manages to toss Price into the ring post. After the break, The Culling hits their finish on Price. Price kicks out. Nima and Price hit their finish on Spears for the win.
Winners- OTM
Grade: C+
This one was all over the place. Chaotic and stiff action was abundant in this one. Fun for TV, but not world-changing in any way
Tate Wilder vs. Jackson Drake
Jackson Drake controls much of the match. Once Wilder fires up, the rest of the Vanity Project hits the ring and causes a distraction. Wilder ends up getting powerbombed into the ring post by Lockwood. Drake hits his 450 for the win.
Winner- Jackson Drake
Grade: C
Standard stuff here. As hateable as the Vanity Project seems, they have very little heat in any of the matches. They are missing something as a whole and individually.
WWE Men’s Speed Championship match | Lexis King (c) w/Birthright vs. Romeo Moreno w/Noam Dar
King retains after hitting the Coronation.
Winner and STILL WWE Men’s Speed Champion, Lexis King!
Grade: C
Speed matches… am I right?
Myles Borne and Tavion Heights vs. DarkState (Cutler James Dion Lennox and Osiris Griffin)
Darkstate gets the win after a Doomsday Device.
Winners- DarkState
After the match, Shugars appears on the bird’s nest, staring down Lennox and Griffin.
Grade: C+
Solid tag match. Odd that there wasn’t another Shugars run in. Shugars staring at DarkState with hate in his eyes doesn’t make sense. This should be on sight.
NXT Championship Match | Tony D’Angelo (c) vs. Kam Hendrix
Hendrix starts off hot and gets a near fall after a running kick. After some back and forth, Hendrix tries to bring in a chair, but is stopped by Mason Rook. Hendrix walks into a back body drop on the commentary desk D’Angelo hits a spinebuster for the win.
Winner and STILL NXT Champion, Tony D’Angelo!
Naraku appears and hands D’Angelo the championship as Rook looks on.
Grade: C+
Ok main event. Hendrix is coming along, but this still felt a bit too early to put him in this spot.
