Buff Bagwell is known for his incredible physique during his wrestling career. Recently, he opened up about a backhanded compliment of sorts he would get about his looks.
While speaking to Chris Van Vliet, Bagwell was asked about physique in the world of wrestling. While talking about his Mt. Rushmore of greatest physiques in the sport, Bagwell opened up about how he and Scott Steiner‘s friendship fell apart thanks to perceived competition stemming from a compliment he received.
Bagwell would talk about how he and Steiner, who were two of WCW’s biggest stars, literally and physically, were often pitted against each other jokingly by other stars in the locker room.
“The boys, of course, loved this, so they’d go ‘Oh, you know Bagwell, he’s looking pretty good, Steiner.’ And Steiner ate it up, of course. He’d go ‘No, no he don’t. And I’m like, ‘Scotty, I’d rather look like you. Stop it. Don’t let this mess us up.’ But he did, he let it mess us up.
“It bothered him. It bothered him…and the biggest compliment I got, was one that he wouldn’t even want, and it was I looked like I was ‘clean.'”
Bagwell went on to note that his and Steiner’s relationship began to experience friction, and eventually fell apart because Steiner “couldn’t get it out of his head” that they weren’t in competition with another.
On the topic of Bagwell’s Mt. Rushmore, the star listed Ultimate Warrior, Lex Luger, Steiner, and Batista as those who had the best physiques ever in wrestling.
