The discussion over Triple H and The Rock’s relationship is not new in WWE. This time, it has resurfaced once again after former WWE personality Jonathan Coachman accused The Game of being jealous of The Rock’s success outside the wrestling world.
Triple H and The Rock were two of the biggest stars of WWE’s Attitude Era. Over the years, both men have publicly shown respect for one another and have even worked together behind the scenes. WWE’s Netflix series Unreal portrayed them as professionals who had moved on from any past issues.
But Coachman isn’t convinced.
Jonathan Coachman claims Triple H and The Rock’s rivalry never truly ended
Speaking on 2 Count Tuesday for Behind the Turnbuckle Studios, Coachman said he doesn’t believe the respect between them is entirely genuine.
“Why don’t you think, JD, people believe me when I say that Triple H and The Rock, as much as they say on Unreal, ‘Oh, we respect each other,’ they do not. Triple H wants to be what The Rock is,” Coachman said.
His co-host, JD, agreed and suggested that The Rock may not want Triple H to get credit for certain major moments during his time running WWE creative.
Coachman believes the real issue doesn’t revolve around wrestling at all; it’s about Hollywood. He claimed that Triple H always wanted to become a movie star and that he witnessed those ambitions during his time in WWE.
“Do you know the other reason why there’s so much this with these two? And I was there for this too, JD. I was there. I was in the room with 10 people. That’s it. Triple H wanted to be a movie star. He did not make any bones about it,” Coachman said.
Coachman pointed to Triple H’s role in Blade: Trinity as an example of those ambitions. He compared Triple H’s career path to that of The Rock, who went on to become one of Hollywood’s biggest stars after leaving WWE full-time.
“And when he was in Blade 3, that was his first major motion picture… That’s what he wanted. And as much as he wants to run the WWE, JD, think about it. Rock, John Cena, now Roman, Cody, MJF, they’re all movie stars. There is a gigantic jealousy component to this whole thing. I’ll give Triple H his flowers in wrestling. But when you live a long career and a long life, you want to expand. And he’s never been allowed to do that. So his whole legacy is wrestling. And I believe it eats at him,” Coachman said.
Coachman made it clear that he wasn’t trying to diminish Triple H’s accomplishments in the wrestling business.
“And that’s not a criticism of him because I want to be in movies too. We all do. It just never happened for him,” Coachman added.
Of course, these comments remain Coachman’s personal opinion. Triple H and The Rock have never publicly suggested that they still have issues with one another.
