It appears fans could see Randy Orton and Drew McIntyre back on WWE television sooner rather than later.
According to WrestleVotes Radio, via Fightful Select, an internal document that circulated earlier this month included the names of both Orton and McIntyre in connection with WWE SummerSlam in August. Both men have been sidelined since WrestleMania. However, sources indicate they are on track to return in time for the two-night premium live event in Minneapolis.
“No additional details regarding their possible returns were provided, but their inclusion on the document suggests both are at least being considered for plans as we inch closer to SummerSlam.”
Drew McIntyre last competed against Jacob Fatu in an Unsanctioned Match at WrestleMania Saturday. The Scottish Warrior fell to The Samoan Werewolf after a hard-fought battle that featured the use of foreign objects.
Randy Orton was last seen in action at WWE WrestleMania 42
The Viper squared off against Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship in the main event later that night. During the match, Orton ended his association with Pat McAfee by hitting him with an RKO. However, he failed to defeat Rhodes for the title and ultimately walked away after delivering a Punt Kick to his former protégé.
A previous report had suggested that Randy Orton’s absence was related to lingering long-term back issues, raising questions about when The Viper would be cleared to return to action. While many fans expected WWE to revisit the unfinished rivalry between Orton and Cody Rhodes following WrestleMania, the company instead shifted its focus toward a Rhodes vs. Gunther program during Orton’s hiatus.
As for Drew McIntyre, previous reports attributed his absence to Hollywood commitments following WrestleMania 42. The former WWE Champion was reportedly involved in filming the upcoming Highlander reboot alongside Henry Cavill, explaining his time away from WWE television.
