Pro wrestlers often carry scars from the punishment they take in the ring. But AEW’s Kris Statlander has a tattoo of one of the most painful moments of her career. Interestingly, this somehow keeps confusing the medical staff.
In November 2025, Statlander competed in the first-ever Women’s Blood & Guts match in AEW history. The match featured some of the company’s biggest names. It also earned a reputation as one of the most brutal women’s matches AEW had ever presented.
During the match, Mercedes Moné, Marina Shafir, Megan Bayne, and the Triangle of Madness defeated Willow Nightingale, Kris Statlander, Jamie Hayter, Toni Storm, Mina Shirakawa, and Harley Cameron.
As expected from a Blood & Guts match, the action was violent. One of the most violent moments came when Marina Shafir slammed Statlander onto a bed of nails outside the ring.
Even though her team lost, Statlander found a unique way to make sure that unforgettable night would stay with her forever.
Medical staff think Kris Statlander has fresh cuts
Speaking to the Daily Star, the former TBS champion revealed that she had the scars from the bed-of-nails spot tattooed on her back in red ink.
“My scars that I got from taking the bed of nails at Blood & Guts, I got those scars tattooed on my back in red so they always look fresh,” Statlander said.
Statlander then revealed that AEW’s medical staff regularly mistake the tattoo for new injuries whenever she visits the trainer’s room.
“Every time I go to the medical room to get my back worked on or something, and they like see my shirt, they always think it’s a fresh cut and they’re like, ‘I can’t work on your back.’ Then they’re like, ‘Oh, wait, no, it’s a tattoo,’” she explained.
For many wrestlers, scars represent sacrifice and dedication to their craft. Statlander’s tattoo does exactly that while also giving everyone backstage a good laugh.
