John Cena insists he really is retired, and that means he won’t even save his “Little Brother” from a WWE beatdown.
Andre was viciously attacked by Jacob Fatu on the show, which seemingly happened with Roman Reigns’ approval. During a media tour for their new movie, Little Brother, ComicBook.com‘s Chris Killian asked John Cena why he didn’t help Eric Andre on WWE RAW last week.
Andre wants to know why too.
“Yeah, thanks for bringing it up,” Andre said sarcastically. “That’s another great question.”
“Are you kidding me? I’m retired,” Cena said.
“Retired from friendship?” Andre replied.
“Retired,” Cena continued.
“You see your friend getting decimated on an international stage and you don’t come in and save me?”
John Cena says Eric Andre is selfishly asking him to go back on his retirement promise
“If you are my friend, then you know that I have given my heart and soul and physical well-being to an industry to a quarter of a century,” Cena explained. “[I] made a promise to friends and loved ones around the world, that for the better of my health, well-being and physical life, I am stepping away, never to perform in a ring again. And you are using your instance, selfishly, as the gravity to draw me back in to risk my physical well-being? You want to talk to my wife and tell her about that?”
Andre said that the way he grew up, he would help his friends if they were getting beaten up. He said he had no problem speaking with Cena’s wife, Shay, about it. However, he ultimately backtracked and said he’d rather deal with Cena than face her wrath.
Cena egged Andre on, asking if it was worth disappointing all of the fans who paid to see his retirement match and farewell tour.
“How I was raised, you see your friend getting beat up, you help him. I don’t know, maybe I’m old school,” Andre reasoned.
“Retired, and I mean it,” Cena added. “[There] isn’t a better example of how retired I am, my friend gets absolutely wrecked by Jacob Fatu—retired. I am retired.”
Andre said that Cena should have called some of his friends. Cena said that he did, but nobody picked up. He added that he called Cody Rhodes, who heard Andre, his Street Fighter co-star, needed help, and promptly hung up the phone.
The duo clearly had fun with the question, as Cena recently revealed Andre’s genuine reaction to getting beaten up on RAW.
