WCW and WWE were known as rivals back in the day. A video that’s making waves shows a rare moment where WCW had to apologize to WWE.
The story was highlighted in a recent post on social media from Deep Cuts, a channel that highlights past history in wrestling’s history. Things started with WCW accidentally advertising an episode of WCW Monday Nitro in June 1996. Advertising in the paper was normal at the time, but WCW had incidentally mentioned that Johnny B. Badd and Vader (two stars who were with the then-WWF) were going to be there.
Neither star had been in WWE for months, but WWE wasn’t too happy about it. Instead of just brushing off the issue, WWE made WCW issue an apology live on air for the mishap to avoid a lawsuit.
WCW did just that, with Tony Schiavone apologizing for the issue. However, Schiavone made sure to take a dig at WWE in the process, saying Badd and Vader “no longer play where the big boys played.”
Of course, WWE and WCW’s rivalry was one of the most legendary aspects of wrestling in the 1990s. The two companies used to go head-to-head for ratings, and things would eventually end with Vince McMahon and WWE buying WCW in 2001, after WCW collapsed following mounting creative struggles and financial losses.
