Deonna Purrazzo explains why she turned down a potential casket match.
Throughout the spring and summer of 2024, Deonna Purrazzo and Thunder Rosa found themselves in a feud filled with special stipulations, including no disqualification and lumberjack matches. For their final clash, the two then tackled a Texas Bullrope match on AEW Collision.
According to Purrazzo, Rosa initially pitched a casket match as the culmination of their rivalry. “The Virtuosa,” however, was vehemently against the idea for multiple reasons.
“Thunder Rosa wanted our last match in the feud to be a casket match. She had asked me like ‘Can I pitch doing a casket match?’ I was like ‘Absolutely not,'” Purrazzo said on Boots To Boots. “I’m claustrophobic. I have such bad anxiety and panic, and my worst fear in life is death. Thunder asked me like three times, and I finally looked at her. I was like, ‘If you pitch that behind my back, I will legit fight you.’ The answer is no, and we will have a real problem [laughs] if I show up to TV and it’s advertised that I’m in a casket match.”
In addition to a casket match, Rosa suggested a hair vs. hair bout, which Purrazzo would have accepted if it resulted in her winning.
“The other thing she pitched that I would do, but I could not lose, is a hair versus hair,” Purrazzo said. “She notoriously wants to do a hair versus hair match. But I basically said to her like, I’m down to do that. Obviously, it fits her whole personality, everything that she is. That’s such a historic match in Mexican culture, but like not for me. I will not be shaving my head. I was like, I’m down to do that, but I will not show up and then be the loser because I’ll leave.”
Purrazzo, Rosa, and AEW officials eventually settled on a Texas Bullrope match, scheduled for the August 10, 2024 episode of Collision in Arlington. Rosa emerged victorious in the bout.
