TNA‘s Mike Santana comments on rumors about him potentially joining WWE.
Recent reports indicated that TNA World Champion Mike Santana’s contract will be up in mid-July and that WWE is interested in signing him once he’s a free agent. It was also noted that at least one main roster member strongly supports bringing in Santana and that WWE has high respect for his work and professionalism.
Reports also indicated that WWE would like to have him on the main roster by the end of this year if he does sign a contract. Matt Hardy had previously noted that he wouldn’t be shocked to see Santana leave TNA for WWE.
Mike Santana addresses WWE signing speculation during TNA title reign
Now, ahead of the upcoming TNA Slammiversary pay-per-view in Boston, Mike Santana addressed the rumors while speaking to Justin Barrasso of Undisputed. He acknowledged that he’s aware of all the talk surrounding his future, but noted that he’s only focused on defending his championship against Nic Nemeth this Sunday.
“I’ve heard the rumors,” said Santana. “I’m defending the world title this Sunday in Boston at Slammiversary. That is my focus. Literally all I’ve been thinking about and preparing for is this match against Nic Nemeth.
“Whatever happens after that happens after that,” said Santana. “My focus is Slammiversary.”
He previously noted that he’s open to going anywhere
In a previous interview with Celebrate Wrestling‘s Mike McGuire, Mike Santana noted that growth has been a vital part of his life. While he didn’t comment on the WWE rumors, he mentioned that he’s open to going anywhere he gets opportunities to grow, be it TNA or any other promotion.
“As far as the future goes, I’m the type that growth is part of my life, and I feel like if there’s an opportunity for me to grow, then that’s what I’m going to do, whether it’s at TNA or anywhere. For me, if you’re not growing in this business, then what are you doing? If you’re not trying to progress in this business, then what are we doing?” Santana said.
“At the end of the day, I need to show my daughter that there’s levels to this. And also my dad used to always say the top of one mountain is the bottom of another. So keep climbing,” Santana concluded.
