Tony Khan Shares Hopeful Update on Injured AEW Star’s Return

AEW President Tony Khan has delivered an encouraging update on Willow Nightingale’s recovery. He offered fans fresh optimism while stopping short of confirming an exact return date.

The popular star has been absent from in-ring competition since suffering a shoulder injury. The injury forced her to vacate championship gold.

While she’s still on the road to recovery, Khan’s latest comments suggest the wait may not last much longer.

Tony Khan expects Willow Nightingale back “relatively soon”

Speaking during the AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door media call, Khan addressed Nightingale’s recovery after she was sidelined with a right shoulder injury. The injury forced her to relinquish the AEW TBS Championship and withdraw from the Owen Hart Foundation Women’s Tournament.

“We’ll be following Willow’s progress in the weeks to come as she’s recovering. We’re all looking forward to her return, which I think will happen relatively soon,” Khan said.

The AEW president added that he would have loved to have Nightingale competing in both the Owen Hart Tournament and this weekend’s Forbidden Door event.

However, he was pleased to see her representing AEW at the Supergirl world premiere alongside Harley Cameron earlier this week. This shows that she remains involved with the company while recovering.

Nightingale announced her injury during the May 20 edition of AEW Dynamite. She sustained the setback during her successful TBS Championship defense against Red Velvet on the May 16 episode of AEW Collision. As a result, Mercedes Moné took her place in the Owen Hart Foundation Women’s Tournament.

With the TBS Championship now vacant, AEW will crown a new champion in a Survival of the Fittest match on the July 1 episode of Dynamite. While Nightingale won’t be part of that title picture, Khan’s update indicates she could be back in the mix sooner rather than later.

For now, AEW continues to monitor her rehabilitation. The timeline may still be up in the air, but Khan’s comments suggest Nightingale’s comeback isn’t a forbidden door away — it may simply be a matter of time.
