AEW’s Adam Copeland says Vince McMahon didn’t see the potential in Rhea Ripley before she joined the Judgment Day.
During his recent interview on SHAK Wrestling, Adam Copeland shared his thoughts about how far Rhea Ripley and Damian Priest have grown compared to his expectations since they worked together in the Judgment Day faction. He noted that he recognized their potential long before WWE management did and suggested their names when Vince McMahon asked him to form a group similar to The Brood.
However, he noticed that Vince McMahon didn’t realize how talented they were at the time, so he intended for Judgment Day to serve as a “vehicle” to give them the exposure and experience they needed.
“Vince said, ‘I want you to start a group, and I want it to be like The Brood.’ I went, ‘Okay, so I’m thinking three people,’ and he said, ‘Who would that be?’ I was like, ‘Damian Priest and Rhea Ripley.’ No hesitation. Those are the two people that could make this pretty cool group,” Copeland said.
“I think he was surprised by that, and that made me realize he didn’t understand what he had in those two, and I thought that was a shame. So I truly thought, ‘Hey, this can be a vehicle.’ So hopefully, they just start getting more reps and some more experience, and I think that’s essentially what it did,” he said about Ripley and Priest.
Adam Copeland is proud of how far Rhea Ripley has come
Speaking further, Adam Copeland said that he’s proud of Rhea Ripley because her meteoric rise validated his original vision for her.
“Then I got to feud with them for a year. So I got to be their babyface along with Rey (Mysterio), and when you’ve got two babyfaces like us, chances are your heel group is going to do okay. Still going, I think, so it worked. I’m proud of them. I’m proud of Rhea; I’m proud of where she has taken it and gone with it, and it’s exactly where I thought it could go,” Copeland said.
