Wil Wheaton Calls Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson a Coward Over Recent Political Stance

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s recent political stance has drawn criticism from actor Wil Wheaton, who called the Hollywood star a “coward” after Johnson said he no longer wants to publicly endorse political candidates.

Johnson recently spoke in an interview with Esquire about why he now prefers to keep his political views private. His comments invited all sorts of reactions, and one of the strongest reactions came from Wheaton.

The discussion started after Johnson told Esquire that he plans to “keep my politics to myself.” Instead, he wants to focus on making movies and entertaining people while not getting involved in political debates.

Actor George Takei later shared Johnson’s comments on Threads, pointing out that they had already divided fans. Wheaton responded with a blunt message:

“So disappointing to find out he is such a coward.”

Wheaton has been very outspoken about politics for years. He has often criticized President Donald Trump and publicly supported Kamala Harris during the 2024 U.S. presidential election, so his reaction aligns with his long-standing views.

In his Esquire interview, Johnson said his views on politics have changed over the years. He explained that his main focus is making movies and telling stories. He doesn’t want politics to become the biggest part of his public image or distract from his work.

Dwayne Johnson also said that staying quiet publicly doesn’t mean he refuses to have important conversations. He added that he has grown tired of today’s political climate, which he believes is filled with constant fighting and negativity. Instead of people attacking each other publicly, Johnson believes it’s better to have honest face-to-face conversations.

He even mentioned musician Bruce Springsteen’s public criticism of Donald Trump during concerts, suggesting that private discussions might be more productive than public attacks.

In 2020, he publicly endorsed Joe Biden. But four years later, Johnson admitted he regretted making that endorsement.

During an interview with Fox News’ Will Cain in 2024, Johnson said he believed endorsing Biden was the right decision at the time because he wanted to use his platform responsibly. However, he later felt that the endorsement added to political division instead of helping bring people together.
