Eric Young Released By TNA Wrestling

Eric Young is no longer with TNA Wrestling.

TNA Wrestling issued the following statement in a press release issued to the media:

“TNA Wrestling has come to terms on the release of Eric Young, effective immediately. EY has had a legendary TNA career, including twice as TNA World Champion. We wish him the best in his future endeavors.”

According to Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp, additional details about Young’s departure are coming shortly. Young has commented on the situation publicly.

Eric Young has worked with TNA Wrestling over three different stints since 2004. He worked there for 12 twelve years, where he won the TNA World Heavyweight Championship. He left for WWE in 2016, where he was a member of the Sanity stable in NXT and on SmackDown. Young returned to TNA (Impact Wrestling) before going back to WWE for a brief run in 2022-2023. Young had been with TNA since 2023, where he challenged for the TNA World, International and X Division Championship.

Upon his return in 2023, Young said that he could work anywhere he wanted, but chose TNA (then IMPACT). Young cited the close-knit locker room and collaborative efforts backstage as why he wanted to come home, calling it a “very, very special place to work.”

Young’s last match in TNA was a loss to Ricky Sosa, a rising star whom he pushed TNA to sign, at Slammiversary on June 28. His departure is the latest in a period that has also seen Tommy Dreamer and Sami Callihan released, while Tessa Blanchard and Steve Maclin requested their respective releases.

Update: Fightful (via Fightful Select) is reporting that Young requested his release, and is also expected to pursue a return to WWE.
