Glenn Jacobs recently opened up about one of his most memorable personas before he would go on to become Kane.
During a recent video interview posted with Kane on WWE‘s Vault channel for WWE Photo Shoot, the legend went through his iconic career and the many characters he played. One of those saw him play the role of a fake Diesel, the persona for Kevin Nash during the 1990s. According to Kane, the decision came right after Nash and Scott Hall had gone to WCW.
“I was in South Africa. Jerry Brisco came to me and said, ‘When you get back to the States you need to call Vince.’ And they had this idea,” Kane said. “Kevin Nash and Scott Hall had recently gone to WCW in Atlanta. The gist of it was that JR had found some replacements. It was me and Rick Bognar, he was in ECW, and he had a character which parodied Razor Ramon and did it really well.”
Kane went on to talk about how, although the gimmick didn’t last too long, it was still a good concept, but failed for one specific reasons.
“A lot of people thought that the faux Diesel and Razor Ramon was fatally flawed. I actually didn’t think so. I thought it was a good concept, but the thing was that Jim Ross is never gonna be a bad guy to our audience, especially at that time,” said Kane, who said the best aspect of the stunt was that it allowed him to get some much needed experience, which he said he needed as he was lacking “good work” prior to that.
Of course, Kane would go on to become a legend thanks to his persona, and now has a career in politics, serving as the mayor of Knox County, Tennessee.
