Chad Gable believes one defining performance has changed the conversation around his WWE future.
After reaching a major milestone in his singles career, the former tag team standout now has his sights set much higher. Nevertheless, he knows proving himself doesn’t stop with one acclaimed match.
Speaking on The Hot Tag with Brady Jones, Gable explained why he feels the momentum from his recent success has opened the door to WWE’s biggest prize.
Chad Gable believes he’s ready for the WWE Championship
Reflecting on his widely praised Mask vs. Mask match against El Grande Americano, Gable said the bout helped prove he belongs in the main event picture rather than being viewed solely as a tag team wrestler.
“I’ve been this successful tag team wrestler and almost categorized as that,” Gable said. “I have Tag Team Championships on every level… what the mask vs. mask match did was show the world those weren’t just words.”
He added that his ambitions now extend well beyond winning any singles championship.
“My intention going forward is to continue to do that… to be the guy, to hold the World Championship, to hold the WWE Championship. I’m capable of that. I know it, and I think people now know it and the right people now know it.”
Still, Gable acknowledged that one standout performance alone won’t carry him to the top of the card. Like other great championship reigns, momentum has to be defended before the title can be.
“It’s also on me to continue this momentum to carry it forward,” he said, pointing to his current storyline involving Otis and his efforts to confront “characters and demons” from his past. According to Gable, fans have connected with the emotional direction of the story. This makes it even more important to keep building.
Rather than celebrating one career highlight, Gable said he looks to make a trail of highlights.
“I’ve never been about the achievement and the end goal,” he explained. “It’s always process-driven… I can either bridge that gap and become the next-level performer that I’ve always said I wanna be, or I can rest on my laurels… but no thank you.”
With renewed confidence and a clear target in mind, Gable has made one thing unmistakable. His next goal is chasing WWE’s top prize.
