Drew McIntyre has honored Sheamus on his way out of WWE.
Former WWE Champion Sheamus is set to leave WWE imminently, but before he does, several of his current and former colleagues paid tribute to him across social media. This includes his former tag team partner and long-time friend, Drew McIntyre.
McIntyre honored “The Celtic Warrior” with a pair of photos on X, one of which appeared to be a throwback from their days on the independent wrestling scene. The other was taken at WWE WrestleMania 39, where the two challenged Gunther in a triple threat for the Intercontinental Championship.
McIntyre complemented the post with a four-leaf clover and burger emojis, the latter of which comes in reference to his memorable “burger after burger after burger” promo aimed at Sheamus. Sheamus and McIntyre’s friendship stretches back more than 20 years to when they crossed paths on the European wrestling circuit. Both later signed with WWE in 2007.
Sheamus departs WWE as a Triple Crown Champion. He held the United States, Tag Team, and WWE Titles during his 19-year run with the company. He last appeared on the November 17 edition of WWE Raw in New York City. There, he teamed with Rey Mysterio and John Cena to take on The Judgment Day. The following month, he underwent shoulder surgery.
Sheamus’ exit from WWE reportedly followed WWE’s offer of a restructured contract extension, which he turned down. His existing deal is expected to expire soon, after which he’d become a free agent.
