WWE NXT Match Stopped After Legitimate Knockout

A dark match before this week’s WWE NXT television tapings came to an unexpected halt after a frightening in-ring moment involving Brooks Jensen and Viktor Zanov.

What initially appeared to be a routine bout quickly turned into a legitimate medical situation, forcing officials to stop the match immediately.

The abrupt ending left fans inside the WWE Performance Center wondering what had happened as medical personnel rushed into action.

Brooks Jensen vs. Viktor Zanov ends in referee stoppage

According to PWInsider, the incident occurred during one of three non-televised matches held before NXT went live on The CW and Netflix. During the match, Jensen connected with a kick that dropped Zanov instantly, prompting the referee to wave off the contest.

The report noted that the stoppage appeared legitimate rather than a planned finish. Shawn Michaels quickly made his way to ringside alongside WWE medical staff, who examined Zanov before allowing the situation to continue.

After regaining his bearings, Zanov reportedly became visibly frustrated and lunged toward one of the referees. While that reaction may have been part of his on-screen character, officials chose to prioritize safety after the unexpected knockout. Zanov eventually left the ring under his own power, although he reportedly appeared dazed during evaluation.

Interestingly, Brooks Jensen’s entrance music played following the stoppage as he headed backstage, but the ring announcer never officially declared him the winner. Sometimes the only clean finish is making sure everyone leaves the ring safely, even if it means the final bell never truly rings.

At this stage, WWE has not confirmed the exact nature of Zanov’s condition. It remains unclear whether he suffered a concussion or was simply shaken up by the kick, but the company opted to err on the side of caution by ending the match immediately.

The remaining pre-show matches proceeded as scheduled, with Skyler Rae defeating Megan Walker and Elijah Holyfield picking up a victory over Harley Riggins. For now, fans will be hoping Zanov’s unexpected setback proves to be only a temporary bump in the road rather than a long-term absence.
