AEW‘s Samoa Joe admits he accepted his infamous 2005 Necro Butcher booking only because he wanted to “get some ass.”
Necro Butcher, who is synonymous with deathmatch wrestling, had one of his most famous non-deathmatch contests against Samoa Joe at IWA Mid-South’s Something To Prove event in June 2005. However, the match, which blended two styles of wrestling, wasn’t without extreme moments and became a cult classic.
The latest episode of Vice’s Dark Side of the Ring is centered on the match. While sharing his thoughts, Samoa Joe revealed the interesting reason why he accepted that booking. He noted that his wife, then-girlfriend, Jessica, lived close to Philadelphia, where the match took place, so he took the booking to “get some ass.”

“My wife, then girlfriend at the time, she lived close to Philly. So I literally took the booking cause I was trying to get some ass [laughs],” Joe said.
Samoa Joe announced a hiatus from AEW television after losing to Will Ospreay at Double or Nothing 2026. He noted that he’s stepping away after landing a “Hollywood” opportunity. Reports later indicated that Joe’s absence is centered on season three of Twisted Metal, which began filming on June 15 and will wrap up on August 26. Joe plays the iconic killer clown Sweet Tooth in the series.
