Jim Ross is already looking beyond his upcoming brain surgery and has identified the event he hopes will mark his return to AEW commentary.
While the WWE Hall of Famer continues preparing for surgery in August, he’s optimistic about getting back behind the microphone sooner rather than later.
Ross’ latest comments also provide an encouraging update on his recovery after spending more than a month in the hospital earlier this summer.
Jim Ross hopes to return for AEW All In at Wembley
On a recent episode of Grilling JR, Ross was asked whether he expected to return in time for AEW All Out in September. Instead of looking that far ahead, the veteran broadcaster revealed he has an even earlier target in mind.
“I hope so. I’d love to do that. I have my sights set on the UK and Wembley. You know, that’s a big event and it’s a good trip. It’s a non-stop flight. I enjoy that opportunity, so that’s kind of where I’m setting my sights.”
Ross added that he is also looking forward to his upcoming two-day appearance in Minneapolis.
“I got that big two-day appearance coming in Minneapolis soon. That’s going to be fun.”
Although Ross won’t be at AEW Redemption this weekend, he is scheduled to appear at WrestleCon in Minneapolis on July 31 and Aug. 1 alongside his longtime broadcast partner, Jerry “The King” Lawler.
The legendary commentator is currently awaiting brain surgery, which is expected to take place in August. Ross has explained that the procedure would address the memory issues and falls he has experienced in recent months.
Despite the health challenges, Ross said he remains motivated by meeting wrestling fans and attending live events.
“I’m very respectful of my health and my time… As long as I can do it and represent, I’m going to do it. Because it’s fun to do. These appearances are fun to do. They make me feel better, and psychologically it’s a win-win.”
Ross’ current AEW contract is also set to expire in August, though he recently noted that Tony Khan has been supportive throughout his health journey. For now, Ross has one clear goal in mind — making it back to Wembley.
