I spoke to a source in TNA today who has provided more details on the news of Sheik Abdul Bashir, aka Shawn Daivari, leaving TNA Wrestling.
According to the source, Daivari did in fact ask for his release from TNA, as other reports are suggesting, as he has been frustrated with the direction of his character for quite some time now. It appears that when Jeff Jarrett took his hiatus from TNA and was pushed out of his creative position in the company, things started to go downhill for Daivari.
At the time, The World Elite was intended to be a big faction up against The Main Event Mafia, however the group’s push was halted when Jarrett was sent home by Dixie Carter. Daivari has apparently been rattling the TNA cage, so to speak, for quite some time now, and has expressed his frustration to Vince Russo and TNA higher ups on a number of occasions.
As far as last night’s PPV was concerned, the planned finish for the feast or fired match was as we reported several days ago, and that was to have Cody Deaner draw the pink slip and be fired from TNA. However, Daivari personally asked for the match finish to be changed so that he would be the one to draw the pink slip, and it would be a way for TNA to write his character off TV as he had wanted to leave the company.
At this point it’s being said that Daivari’s options are Japan and Mexico as potential places to end up working. From what we know, he also left the WWE on good terms, so he could always end up back there if there’s interest on their end.
