7/8 WWE Main Event Results: Sheamus vs. Alberto del Rio in Last Man Standing, Bret Hart & Chris Jericho Promote the WWE Network

The Highlight Reel

Chris Jericho comes down and introduces his good friend, Bret “The Hitman” Hart. Bret comes down and says it’s great to be back in his country’s capitol, and to be on Main Event for the very first time. He puts over the WWE Network and being home in the WWE. He talks about the first time Jericho ever came to the Hart Family Dungeon as a young kid, and his sister making Chris tap out. Y2J asks Bret who his greatest opponents were – Davey Boy, Owen Hart, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, the Undertaker, and Shawn Michaels are all mentioned.

Shawn Michaels’ music hits – Canada doesn’t seem to know what to do about that – and out comes… Damien Sandow. Sandow makes fun of Jericho for not paying the light bill on his jacket, which is off. He puts over “himself” as the man who made Chris Jericho want to be a wrestler, and who was Bret’s favorite wrestler of all time. Sandow says tonight they’ll be talking about the Ottawa Screwjob, because he’s going to send the Hitman back to Ted Turner and WCW. Hart decks him and applies the Sharpshooter while Sandow taps out.

Main Event ends with Y2J and Hart celebrating in the ring.

KILLAM: Seemed like a solid edition of Main Event to me. We got the one lengthy two-break match to kick things off, which was overall a good brawl. Nothing terribly special, but consistently good work from both guys, as they’ve faced each other a few dozen times in the past. The Divas segment was kept mercifully short, put over Total Divas on the WWE Network AND furthered not one, but two ongoing Divas angles. I feel like WWE didn’t get the most out of either Jericho or Bret Hart tonight, but you have to look at their goal this week. All they wanted to do was load up with big names to sell the WWE Network while people watch on the free promotional week. I get that, but I still think we could have seen something a bit more interesting than Damien Sandow’s latest shtick.
