WWE Title Match Update

As mentioned in our live coverage of last night’s episode of WWE Smackdown, a title match featuring Randy Orton versus Seth Rollins for the WWE World Heavyweight Title was referenced. Orton made his claims for a title shot, and Kane told Rollins he was considering it for Extreme Rules, but the match has been confirmed at this time.

Eventhough Orton was mentioned as a possible contender, WWE.com has a new article and poll on possible contenders for Rollins’ title. The article names Orton, Roman Reigns, Big Show, Sheamus, and new champions Daniel Bryan and John Cena, all with accompanying statements making a case for a shot. Reigns’ passage is as follows:

Roman Reigns is certainly in contention, in the wake of an absolutely extraordinary year. He won the Royal Rumble Match, earned a Slammy Award as the Superstar of the Year, and has Speared and Superman Punched his way through the locker room with the help of his powerful arsenal…

The WWE.com poll asking fans who is most deserving of a title shot currently sees Reigns leading with 40%, and Orton is next with 30%.

BP: I know he’s coming off a big Wrestlemania win, but I’m surprised Cena’s paragraph didn’t just say “because… he’s John Cena.”
