Kidd later revealed he had a rod inserted, 4 screws and 16 staples during the surgical procedure following the injury.
During the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer elaborated on the injury stats, and noted that of the 5% of people that do survive the injury, many of them are left as quadriplegics, and the odds are “astronomical” that Tyson Kidd is not in a wheelchair right now.
Meltzer said the injury could be loosely compared to that of actor Christopher Reeve, who was thrown from a horse in 1995, and was left a quadriplegic. Reeve later died of complications stemming from the injury.
“It is unbelievable that Tyson Kidd came through as well as he did,” said Meltzer.
