WWE Summerslam Results (8/23) – New Champions Crowned, Rollins vs Cena, Taker vs Lesnar!

Brock knees Taker a few times and puts him in a Kimura on the turnbuckles, but breaks at the ref’s count and Taker hits Last Ride for two. Brock comes back with another F5 and gets two, then Brock hits a third F5 and Taker still kicks out! Brock can’t believe it and Taker puts him in Hell’s Gate, but Brock shoves him back and applies the Kimura again. He applies a bodyscissors and Taker tries to pin Brock before he taps, then the ref gets in position and somehow the bell rings after one. Heyman thinks Taker tapped first and the ref says he didn’t call for the bell, but Taker puts Brock in Hell’s Gate and the ref tries to restore order. Brock ends up giving Taker the middle finger while in the hold, then he passes out and Taker is awarded the win. 

Winner – Undertaker 

Heyman freaks out and slams on the ring bell, and says everyone saw Taker tap out, and Brock is the real winner. After a few replays of what happened, we see Brock pose on the ramp and Heyman leaves with him. 

Way too much of a convoluted finish for my taste, kind of. They explained it as “the timekeeper saw Taker tap out and rang the bell.” This is the first time I remember a timekeeper making that call and not the ref, but this does give Brock grounds for the third match everyone’s talking about. It all makes sense with the replay, but seeing it live I thought the match was over with a simultaneous pin/tap or something else. I didn’t realize the match was never stopped. Overall it was a good match, and a really good show overall. Not sure it needed the fourth hour, but the show never dragged at all. Pretty good weekend for wrestling.
