Backstage Update on WWE Placing the Blame on Charlotte for Last Week’s Raw Angle, Backstage Heat on Ric Flair For Podcast Comments, More

ric flairIn response to last Monday night’s controversial WWE Raw angle involving Divas Paige and Charlotte, WWE issued the following statement:

“Subject matter this personal is only approved as a result of the strong advocacy of the talent themselves. Notwithstanding that, WWE is ultimately responsible for what airs in its programming.”

Since the angle took place on Raw last Monday night, there have been conflicting reports published regarding who was responsible for coming up with the idea in the first place. The above WWE statement implies Charlotte was at the very least involved in advocating the idea, however from what’s been reported over the course of the last week, that does not appear to be the truth.

Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer initially reported that a WWE rep told him on the phone that the entire angle was Charlotte’s idea, that she had been pushing WWE to do it for months and that WWE officials “really didn’t want to do it, but Charlotte was insistent on it.” Meltzer is now claiming the WWE rep lied to him.

The reality of the situation appears to be that the Raw angle was not Charlotte’s decision, and it came from WWE creative. The angle was re-aired by WWE on Smackdown this past Thursday night and is still available to watch on WWE’s YouTube channel.

In related news, it’s being said that WWE is unhappy with Ric Flair for calling the company out on his podcast and speaking candidly about the Raw angle involving Reid Flair. You can read more details about what Ric Flair had to say about the angle at this link.
