The Packaging

This figure marks the very first released, officially licensed AEW action figure from Wicked Cool Toys/Jazwares! This Chris Jericho just beat the official Series 1 figures to release on Ringside and Walmart. I must say the packaging on this figure is nothing short of amazing, either.

This figure comes in a box with half of a Champagne bottle to mimic is viral “A Little Bit of the Bubbly” moment on AEW. The back of the box has a large image of Jericho with the AEW title followed by his signature and the Ringside Collectibles Exclusive logo. It’s interesting the side notes he is considered #9 for Series 1.

Once you cut the tape on the box you can remove this outer shell to reveal the half bottle and all the contents behind it. When you life the bottle there you will see the figure surrounded by all his accessories, such as a table, the food and champagne as well as the AEW title and microphone.

The Figure

Being this is the very first AEW figure of Jericho I must say they did a nice job honestly. I was not sure what to expect as we are only used to WWE action figures from Mattel these days, so it is a nice breath of fresh air for collectors. That being said I truly feel they did a great job.

One thing I noticed immediately out of the box was the fact they have tape/plastic wrapped around his arms/shoulder area to protect the figure from any staining, which is something the old Jakks WWE figures would experience as well as the latest Mattel WWE Elite 77 Rick Rude. This is when the dye from the fabric seeps into the plastic, permanently ruining the figure. This is something I hope they continue to do as well as hope Mattel look into down the line.

Jericho’s head scan looks pretty good. His hair is pulled back and you can see his receding hairline. We are not used to an aging Jericho figure so this is a nice update for collectors. You can see the detail in his teeth as well as his facial hair. His shirt is sleeveless with the “A Little Bit of the Bubbly” logos on it. It velcros in the back so you can easily remove it.

Once you remove the shirt you can see Jericho’s chubbier torso, thankfully they didn’t make him ripped like older figures used to be. He has a ton of detail on his arms and hands with his tattoos, too. You can easily remove the tape/plastic by slowly pulling it off from over his arms. He has black wrist tape as well.

Looking at the bottom of the figure he has thicker legs, which is great for accuracy to his current build/body shape. The belt is molded on his waist, however the belt loops are not. You can see the logos going down his tights as well as his knee pads covering his knees. He also has black, tall boots with the laces and tongue just like how he wears them.

The Articulation

The articulation on this figure is much like that of the Mattel WWE Ultimate Series action figures, in that they are very poseable. Jericho has the typical Elite style joint we are used to, like ball-jointed head, arms and legs. He has the swivel bicep and leg/boot joints and the rocker ankle joints. He also has ball-jointed wrists as well as his chest and even his waist being ball-jointed, which is really cool and something we’ve yet to see. He has the double-jointed elbows and knees as well. I believe his hands can be swapped but being he does not come with any I did not want to attempt ripping his hands out to see.

What is interesting about the articulation with these as that they are ratchet-like joints in that they click. The fact they are stiff and click allow you to pose them a lot better without having to worry about loose joints, which is the worst. I did notice his shoulder joints are very stiff so be patient when posing him just to be safe.

The Accessories

The accessories with this figure are fantastic to say the least. We already took a look at his removable cloth shirt, but he also comes with the following:

  • 2 champagne bottles
  • AEW microphone
  • AEW Championship
  • 2 yellow cups
  • An ice bucket
  • Appetizer plate with removable olive bowl
  • Break-away table

These are a lot of awesome accessories for one figure and they really compliment it well. The microphone easily slips into Jericho’s hands. It has the AEW logo on all sides, too. The champagne bottles also fit nicely into his hands so you can pose him very similarly to the moment it’s based on. Even the labels on the champagne bottles have text and logos, which is really cool.

The yellow cups are like “Solo” cups, which are an awesome accessory to say the least. Not to mention the bottles fit snugly into the ice bucket so you can display the champagne on ice, which is awesome. Be careful when doing this tough as the stickers may peel off a bit from the ice pushing on them. The food tray is also awesome as you can see the crackers, cheese and different meats. Even the olive bowl in the middle comes out, which is a nice touch.

Lastly you have the AEW Championship, which is super detailed. It’s a shiny gold, making it pop nicely. It has the silver accents in it as well. It’s very similar to that of the Mattel belts, but I did notice the fastening pieces are a bit of a pain due to the rubber. Be patient when trying to secure the belt on Jericho or whomever as the rubber may not always cooperate.

Overall

Overall, I am very impressed with the first AEW action figure in my posession. The detail is great, the articulation is pretty great and the accessories are wonderful to say the least. Being it is a new line of wrestling figures I wasn’t sure what to think. There was a lot of concern going around the internet when more images surfaced. Sure the skin tone is a bit flat compared to what we are used to but Jazwares/Wicked Cool Toys already addressed this. The figures will probably look better as the sets go on as this is just the beginning and they’re learning what people want most.

I honestly recommend them. Give these figures a chance if you are a collector. I’ve been collecting forever and I do like these. I really mean that. I think they’re pretty nice and I’m excited to get the others very soon, so keep an eye out for that on here!

Be sure to order this over on Ringside ASAP as it’s already on back-order. Who knows if they’ll be getting more after that, too.
