Sheamus Calls Tryout Match with Ziggler a “Disaster”, Talks Early Days with Drew McIntyre & Wade Barrett, Current Travelling Partners & More

wwe smackdownWWE Superstar Sheamus is the guest on this week’s Talk Is Jericho with wrestling legend and podcast host Chris Jericho. Below are a few highlights from the interview, which you can listen to in full at podcastone.com/talk-is-jericho

*Most recently, Sheamus has been travelling with Fandango and Bray Wyatt, which makes for a pretty interesting trio of guys. Years ago, he was travelling with Drew McIntyre and Jinder Mahal prior to their departure from the company.

*At one point before becoming a WWE Superstar, he had a career in IT but said he had no passion for it. At one point he was working three different jobs.

*Sheamus calls the first WWE tryout he had a “disaster”. The second time he went back was right after the death of Eddie Guerrero, and everyone backstage was demoralized and down. His tryout was with Dolph Ziggler (then Nick Nemeth), who had only been wrestling for about three months at the time, and says the match was a trainwreck. The two have obviously been working together frequently as of late, and Sheamus says the tryout is something they look back and laugh about now.

*Two of the guys he worked with early in his career that ended up coming over to WWE were Drew Galloway (McIntyre) and Wade Barrett.

*He was supposed to have a tryout in London, but WWE couldn’t fit him on the card so he flew himself to Milan. He was given a dark match with Jimmy Wang Yang, who legitimately knocked him out in less than a minute with a spin kick. Pretty funny that this 5’9 little Korean-American guy that weighed maybe 200-210 pounds soaking wet K.O.’d a 6’4 Irish monster.

*Suspicions confirmed – Sheamus can not get a tan. He has tried, and it didn’t end well.
