John Cena Set To Star In ‘Ricky Stanicky’, Film Acquired By Prime Video

John Cena has been cast in a new movie.

Anthony D’Alessandro and Rosy Cordero of Deadline report that Cena and Zac Efron will star in director Peter Farrelly’s Ricky Stanicky, a comedy that has been acquired by Prime Video. Jermaine Fowler, who previously starred in Sorry to Bother You, has also joined the cast for the film, which will begin production in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia in February.

Farrelly has helmed several acclaimed fills, including Dumb and DumberShallow HalKingpin, Hall Pass, and There’s Something About Mary.

Some of the producers include Paul Currie (Hacksaw Ridge, Blacklight), Thorsten Schumacher (Crimes of the FutureAll Quiet on the Western Front), and in association with John Jacobs (TedBlades of Glory).

Per Deadline, the film centers around three friends, who “invent a character to use to get out of tricky predicaments, but they have to hire an actor to portray their fictional friend when their significant others become suspicious.”

Cena commented on the news in a tweet, and he expressed his excitement.

Cena continues to build his successful career in Hollywood. In recent years, he has starred in F9, The Suicide Squad, Vacation Friends, and The Independent. His Suicide Squad character, Peacemaker, got a spinoff series that was name after the character, and the first season premiered on HBO Max in 2022.

The 16-time world champion returned to the ring on the December 30 episode of WWE SmackDown, where he and Kevin Owens defeated Roman Reigns and Sami Zayn.
