Caleb Hearon Wanted to Be John Cena, But His Friends Made Him Be Rikishi

Caleb Hearon recounts how his friends once made him cosplay as Rikishi instead of John Cena.

Actor and stand-up comedian Caleb Hearon recently appeared on Late Night with Seth Meyers to promote the movie Little Brother starring John Cena and comedian Eric Andre.

During the conversation, he recalled telling Cena a personal story on set about how he and his friends used to play WWE on a trampoline as kids. Since they all played the character of a WWE Superstar while playing, Hearon told his friends one day that he wanted to be John Cena.

“I was a big John Cena fan growing up. Yeah, I loved it (WWE). I had this vivid memory. I told John this on set one night. We filmed a lot of overnights: me, him, Eric, and Ego Nwodim, Sherry Cola, Ben Ahlers- really fun cast. One night at, like, four in the morning, I worked up the courage to tell John my story about him,” Caleb Hearon began.

“My friends and I would play WWE on the trampoline, like throw each other around, and I was way bigger than everybody, so I rocked. One day, I was like, ‘Guys, I want to be John Cena today. Like, that’s the character I want to play.’ Everyone huddled up and conferenced about it, which you don’t ever love to see when you pitch an idea. All your friends being like, ‘Give us a moment,'” Hearon continued.

However, Caleb Hearon said that since he was on the bigger side, his friends made him play as WWE Hall of Famer Rikishi instead of John Cena. He also revealed Cena’s reaction to the story.

“But they huddled up and conferenced about it, and then they came back, and they were like, ‘We’re thinking Rikishi.’ If some of you know who Rikishi is, Rikishi was the biggest, fattest guy alive, and his signature move is that he wore, like, underwear. I don’t know the technical term for it. But he would rub his butt in people’s faces, and he’s big and fat, so that’s disgusting. They made me be Rikishi instead of John Cena,” Caleb Hearon said.

“I told John that, and he was like, ‘Alright.’ No, I’m kidding. He was totally lovely about it. It was fun. It was cool to work with him.”

Netflix hosted the world premiere of Little Brother on June 18, and it featured a hilarious moment between John Cena and Eric Andre following the red carpet.
