WWE RAW Results:

This week’s episode of WWE RAW kicks off with a recap of last week’s show.

World Heavyweight Champion Jey Uso makes his way to the ring, yeeting with the WWE Universe. Uso says he’s here and he knows Logan Paul is here, so he calls him out. Instead of Logan Paul, Uso gets Paul Heyman.

Paul Heyman says he’s not out there to disrespect Jey Uso, but he wants to say something straight to Jey’s face. Uso says he has a lot of balls stepping in the ring with him after what he did to his family. Heyman says Jey is gonna lecture him about betraying Roman Reigns. Uso says from day one, he saw past him, and he warned Reigns and Punk about him.

Heyman says Jey should have warned him about CM Punk. Paul says Punk put him in a position where it would 100% sabotage his relationship with Reigns. Heyman says his dream with CM Punk was long before Reigns ever thought about being a wrestler. Heyman claims he found a stray big dog and turned him into the Tribal Chief on the Island of Relevancy.

Paul Heyman blames Reigns for losing to Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 40 and leaving him with Solo Sikoa. Heyman insists he’s right and he’s not the problem this time. Heyman turns red like a tomato, and Uso asks him if he’s okay and if he’s done. Uso wants to know what this has to do with him. Heyman says he apologizes because he didn’t come out there to talk about CM Punk or Roman Reigns.

Paul Heyman gets to the point

Paul Heyman says Uso won that title because he wants that title, but that title is all about power and control, and he doesn’t know how to wield it. Heyman says Jey wants to be champion, but Seth Rollins has to be champion. Heyman says Bron Breakker was only part one of their plan, part two is Rollins taking that title.

Paul Heyman says Seth Rollins is challenging him for the World Heavyweight Championship. Heyman says Uso can pick the time and the place. Jey Uso says it’s happening tonight, and Heyman pretends to be shocked.

After the commercial break, Paul Heyman comes to Seth Rollins and Bron Breakker’s locker room and says that Jey Uso fell for it, and he wants to do the match tonight. Rollins says he told him so. Heyman hypes up the idea to Bron Breakker that Jey Uso is focused on Logan Paul and has had no time to prepare for Seth Rollins tonight. Heyman says tonight they get handed the keys to the kingdom when the referee hands the World Championship to Seth Rollins.

Penta vs. JD McDonagh (w/ Finn Balor and Carlito)

  • The finish of the match saw interference from both The Judgment Day and Chad Gable, but Penta managed to hit a Mexican Destroyer on JD McDonagh to score the pinfall victory.

Winner: Penta

Grade: B+

Fun opening contest. They really stacked the odds against Penta tonight, which made his win all the more impressive.

Who is Austin Theory facing tonight?

Backstage, Grayson Waller is complaining to Adam Pearce about the match he booked him in tonight. Whoever his opponent is, he doesn’t want anything to do with him. Austin Theory shows up, and Waller plays it off like he got him a singles match on RAW. Theory is excited about it, and Pearce gives him the match instead. Theory asks who his opponent is, and Waller says it will be better if it’s a surprise.

Austin Theory (w/ Grayson Waller) vs. Sheamus

  • The finish of the match saw Sheamus hit Austin Theory with a Brogue Kick to score the pinfall victory.

Winner: Sheamus

Grade: B

The match was exactly what you would expect it to be. Sheamus looks refreshed, competing for the first time since the Royal Rumble. The seeds of tension continue to build between Theory and Waller, it should be only a matter of time before these two split up.

AJ Styles says he’s got next

It’s announced that Dominik Mysterio will defend the Intercontinental Championship at Backlash against Penta.

Backstage in The Judgment Day locker room, JD McDonagh is upset about Chad Gable getting involved in his match tonight with Penta. They are interrupted by AJ Styles, who tells Dominik Mysterio it doesn’t matter if he or Penta wins at Backlash, he’s coming for the Intercontinental Championship. Styles leaves, and Dominik starts whining about how hard it is to be a champion and asks Finn if he’ll take care of AJ for him.

Balor gets an attitude, asking if his job is to clean up Dominik’s messes now before saying he’s just playing and says he’ll take care of it.

In another backstage area, The New Day talk to Chad Gable and say they believe that American Made deserves a shot at the Tag Titles before the War Raiders deserve another one. Gable agrees. Becky Lynch approaches, and New Day say it’s terrible what Lyra Valkyria did to her last week. Lynch says thank you and makes her way to the ring.

Becky Lynch and Lyra Valkyria go head-to-head on the microphone

In the ring, Becky Lynch is upset about the crowd booing her. Lynch says she took out Bayley, but she’s trash and doesn’t matter. Lynch says she also took out Lyra Valkyria too but calls her recycling. Lyra comes out and calls Becky Lynch the queen of recycling. Valkyria says Lynch didn’t make her. Valkyria says Lynch went on holiday, and everyone got better, and she made history of her own.

Lyra says she’s defended the Intercontinental Championship more than Lynch has shown up to work this year. Lynch says all the women only did better with her gone because they didn’t have to deal with her. Lynch says it doesn’t matter how good Lyra thinks she is, she will only ever be the moment after the moment.

Valkyria runs down Lynch’s first-evers and reminds her that she’s the first-ever Women’s Intercontinental Champion. Lynch tries to cheap-shot Valkyria, but Lyra gets the better of her. Security has to separate the two women multiple times. Valkyria ends the segment standing tall.

IYO SKY vs. Roxanne Perez

  • The finish of the match saw IYO SKY score the pinfall victory over Roxanne Perez after a series of back-and-forth rollups.

Winner: IYO SKY

After the match, Roxanne Perez shakes IYO SKY’s hand in a show of sportsmanship, but as she leaves, Giulia jumps SKY from behind. It was a setup, and Perez returns to the ring and they both beat SKY down.

Grade: B+

Very good match. I wish Roxanne hadn’t lost this many matches already, spending so little time on the main roster. Hopefully, fans realize how talented she is, and these early losses won’t hurt her long-term.

Rusev returns to the ring on WWE RAW

Otis (w/ Alpha Academy) vs. Rusev

  • The finish of the match saw Rusev lock Otis in the Accolade to win the match via submission.

Winner: Rusev

After the match, Akira Tozawa gets in the ring and challenges Rusev to a match right now. Rusev backs down only to attack Tozawa when his back is turned and takes out both members of Alpha Academy in a dominant fashion.

Grade: A-

While I still think it was probably longer than it needed to be, this is much more along the lines of what Aleister Black’s match against The Miz on SmackDown should have been. Very little offense from Otis and just a dominant victory for Rusev. I would even argue that Otis should have gotten less, but it was still a much better showing for Rusev tonight than it was for Black on Friday. The dominant aftermath really put things over the top for me. Great in-ring return for Rusev!

Gunther and Pat McAfee go face-to-face

Adam Pearce brings Pat McAfee and Gunther to the ring and reminds them that there will be no physicality tonight. Pearce says they can say what they need to say tonight because at Backlash, the time for talking is over.

Gunther says he won’t do anything tonight because he doesn’t want to ruin Backlash, and he is a professional. The crowd chants that he tapped out, and Gunther tells them to shut up and he’ll get back to that later. Pat McAfee says Michael Cole is a walking and talking GOAT. McAfee says that for 28 years of his life, Cole has traveled on the road for this company, and that has given him the right to have an opinion and speak on it.

McAfee spends several minutes kissing up to everyone in Nebraska instead of talking to Gunther. Pat finally gets to the point, saying both he and Gunther had the dream to be in WWE and grew up watching professional wrestling, knowing that’s what they were put on this earth to do.

Pat McAfee says Gunther is jaded

McAfee believes Gunther has gotten jaded due to the fact that he’s held a title for 80% of his WWE run. McAfee says, unlike the Walter era, Gunther has gotten too comfortable, and when he underestimates him at Backlash, he’s gonna prove to the WWE Universe that this version of Gunther is soft.

Gunther says Saturday is a very special day for him, and McAfee just got him in the mood for it. Gunther says McAfee has his full and undivided attention at Backlash, and he’s going to choke him out until he drops like a wet towel. The Ring General says that on Saturday, only the grace of God will be able to lift his arms off McAfee’s throat.

A video package airs hyping the Undisputed WWE Championship match between John Cena and Randy Orton at Backlash.

Jey Uso is shown walking backstage. The main event is next!

World Heavyweight Championship: Jey Uso (c) vs. Seth Rollins (w/ Paul Heyman and Bron Breakker)

  • The finish of the match saw Sami Zayn and CM Punk get involved to offset the interference from Bron Breakker and Paul Heyman. Punk hits Rollins with a steel chair that ends the matchup.

Winner: Seth Rollins (via disqualification). Jey Uso retains.

Grade: A-

CM Punk and Sami Zayn stand in the ring protecting Jey Uso as WWE RAW goes off the air.

WWE RAW Review:

I thought this was a pretty good episode of RAW tonight. We got some good matches and storylines building into Backlash on Saturday, and the main event was very fun despite it probably being a bit overbooked for my liking.

Grade: B+
