NXT North American Champion Ricky Saints is out to watch the match from the commentary desk.
Sean Legacy vs. Je’Von Evans vs. Ashante “Thee” Adonis
A brawl breaks out as soon as the bell rings. Legacy dumps Adonis over the top. Evans catches Legacy with a springboard hip toss. Adonis charges in and gets back body dropped by Legacy and Evans. Evans and Legacy keep Adoins from getting in the match at every turn. Evans takes Legacy and Adonis out with a sick suicide dive that almost ended poorly for Evans. After the break, Adonis powerbombs Evans onto Legacy for a near fall. Adonis destroys Evans with a lariat.
Legacy takes out Adonis with a springboard dropkick. Evans lands a top-rope ranna, followed by a twisting enziguri. Adonis pushes Evans out of the ring and tries to steal the pin. Evans breaks up the pin. Adonis lands a superkick. Legacy breaks up the pin with a springboard 450. Ethan Page hops the barricade and attacks Ricky Saints. Evans takes out Saints and Page with a dive. Back in the ring, Legacy avoids a splash from Evans and hits his finisher on Adonis for the win.
Winner: Sean Legacy
Grade: B-
This match had fast-paced, hard-hitting action. Evans stuns each time he’s in the ring, with his vertical leap putting Batroc to shame. This writer hasn’t seen much of Legacy, but he put on a solid performance with Evans and Adonis. With that, just because you can do something doesn’t mean you should. Maybe breaking up a pin deep into a match with a 450 is a bit much. Also, having Legacy win here is somewhat perplexing. Who are we pushing here?

Grade: C+
Williams has released a few diss tracks that were enjoyable. This was fine, but rapping over the vocals was a bad idea. Muddied the presentation.
Shawn Spears vs. Josh Briggs
Spears tries to get Briggs to lose control by cheating. Briggs catches Spears on during a dive and tosses him into the desk. After a distraction, Izzi Dame boots Briggs in the face. Spears rolls up Briggs for the win.
Winner: Shawn Spears
After the match, Briggs attacks Spears and gets beaten down by the Culling. NXT Tag Team Champions Hank and Tank make the save.
Grade: C
This looks to be heading towards Briggs turning on Hank and Tank and getting his team another tag team shot (yes, I know his partner is “gone,” but this writer doesn’t buy that). This match was your normal TV fare, but it fell apart at the finish. Briggs got pinned after a lazy boot from Dame. Nothing about that was believable. If Dame has to factor into the finish, give her a better way to cost Briggs the match. Make it make sense.

OTM vs. Kale Dixon & Uriah Conners w/ Andre Chase
Nima and Price toss Connors and Dixon all over the ring. OTM hit an Alabama Spinebuster for the win.
Winners- OTM
Grade: B
This one was quick and to the point. OTM dominated the new Chase U. Bring back squash matches. They add so much when they are done right, and this one was done right.
The Ruler and The Challenger
Femi notes that Borne came to the ring alone. He’s either stupid or brave. Femi tells Borne that no one believed him, but Borne is now the number one contender. At Battleground, Borne’s dream will die. If Borne wants to be treated like everyone else, he can join the list of Femi’s victims. Borne says everyone underestimated him, so Femi can too. At Battleground, it will be the toughest match of his career, but he’s used to being the underdog. As Borne leaves, the winner of the men’s side of LFG, Jasper Troy, attacks Femi. Borne chases Troy off. Borne tries to help Femi up. Femi smacks his hand away.
Grade: B
Femi delivers in the ring and on the mic. The promo “battle” between Femi and Borne went a long way to give this match some much-needed heat. The addition of the LFG’s Jasper Troy seems premature, but let’s see where it goes. What do you all think? Let me know in the comments!

Lola Vice vs. Fallon Henley w/Jacy Jayne
Vice is in control early. After a distraction from Jayne, Henley takes control. Vice is sent flying after a ring post tiger feint kick. After the break, Henley continues her assault. Vice counters a suplex and floors Henley with a clothesline. Spicy hip attack by Vice. Ax kick by Vice. Jayne gets on the apron and argues with Henley. Henley accidentally knocks Jayne off the apron. Vice floors Henley with a spinning back fist for the win.
Winner- Lola Vice
Grade: B
Vice gets a lot of props from the NXT Universe, but Henley has been an underrated member of the women’s division for years at this point. She makes a surprisingly good heel, partnered with Jayne. Their split is clearly coming soon, but if Vice can get a solid win out of their turmoil, why not? Vice’s strikes look more vicious than ever, and that spinning backfist almost took Henley’s head off. That was a great finish.

Kelani Jordan vs. Zaria w/Sol Ruca
Zaria sends Jordan flying with a pair of German suplexes. Zaria misses a corner spear and falls to the floor. Jordan lands a corkscrew dive and sends Zaria into the ring steps. Jordan boots Zaria off the apron. Zaira catches Jordan as she attempts a diving rana. Zaria swings Jordan into the barricade.

After the break, Zaria and Jordan trade shots. Jordan traps Zaria in a sleeper. Zaria drives Jordan into the corner with a cannonball dive. Jordan knocks Zaria off the apron into Ruca’s arms. As Zaria and Ruca stare at each other, Jordan kicks Ruca into Zaria. Ruca hops up on the apron. Jordan sends Zaria into Ruca, knocking her off the apron. In the confusion, Jordan rolls up Zaria for the win.
Winner: Kelani Jordan
Grade: B
The crowd was hot for this one. Whatever is going on with Zaria and Ruca is highly entertaining. The downside is that the story leads to Zaria losing too many matches. Jordan’s heightened aggression in the ring has added so much to her matches. It’s not just about flying around the ring; it’s about doing what you have to do to win. We have seen Jordan vs. Ruca in the past, but not this version of Jordan. The battleground title match is going to be insane.
Joe Hendry Concert
Hendry sings a song about Trick Williams being Melo’s b*tch. Williams interrupts and calls Hendry Average Joe. Williams decks Hendry and lands a tornado boot. The crowd boos. Williams sets up the Trick Shot. Hendry blocks the Trick Shot, but whacks Williams in the knee with the guitar. Standing ovation by Williams.
Grade: B
Hendry’s songs are always well put together and funny. Tonight was no different. The “Melo’s b*tch” line made this writer pop. Williams has been getting over on Hendry for weeks, so Hendry finally standing tall here was needed. History says Hendry standing tall before a PLE would be a bad sign for his title reign, but NXT tends to be the one brand that bucks that trend more often than not.
WWE NXT Review:
Tonight’s NXT was good but not great. The best match of the night was Kelani Jordan vs. Zaria, and the best promo was the battle between Oba Femi and Myles Borne. No match blew the doors off, and some segments were a bit clunky, but the show managed to build solid momentum for Battleground. Let us know what you think in the comments!
