WWE SmackDown Results:

Cody Rhodes and several others are shown entering the arena for tonights show. Seth Rollins, Paul Heyman, Bronson Reed, and Bron Breakker walk straight through Gorilla into the arena from backstage.

He’s a Visionary…

The SmackDown crowd sings Rollins’ song, then breaks into a CM Punk chant. Rollins says he will win MITB and take control of this entire industry. The crowd pops, then starts chanting for Roman Reigns. Rollins quips that he (Reigns) can’t hear them because he put Reigns on the island of irrelevancy after WrestleMania. They are here to issue a warning to SmackDown: anyone who stands in their way will end up like everyone who has gotten in their way. Rollins says no one can stop him. Solo Sikoa‘s music hits. Sikoa, United States Champion Jacob Fatu, and JC Mateo walk to the ring. Rollins looks confused. Sikoa tells Rollins that if he thinks no one can stop them, The Bloodline is standing right here. Sikoa quips that Rollins has his own little Bloodline going here. Is Breakker supposed to be “Main Event” Jey Uso? Is Reed supposed to be the “Honorary Uce” Sami Zayn?

Sikoa tells Heyman long time, no see. Rollins gets in Sikoa’s face and tells him to choose his next words wisely. Sikoa laughs in Rollins’ face and tells him he’s going to win MITB and all the power Rollins is talking about will be his. Rollins tries to get Fatu to talk for himself since Sikoa is doing all the talking. Maybe Fatu needs a new nickname. Maybe Fatu should be called “Solo’s Bitch.” Rollins notes that the only person in this ring he may be threatened by is a Fatu, but not Sikoa. Fatu gets in Rollins’ face. Breakker steps in. Rollins tells Breakker to take a walk. As Rollins and Co walk away. Jimmy Uso attacks Sikoa and Co from behind. Jimmy drops Mateo with a superkick.

Grade: B

Great opening segment. Rollins’s Shtick gets old, but he’s entertaining when interacting with new faces. Rollins and Sikoa haven’t interacted a ton when it comes to promos, so this was fun to see. Sikoa is low-key one of the funniest people on the roster. It’s a great lane for him to settle into being a smart-ass bad guy.

Jimmy Uso vs. JC Mateo

Jimmy lands a crossbody off the top. Mateo kicks at two. Mateo clobbers Jimmy with a back elbow. Jimmy sends Mateo out of the ring. Jimmy lands a dive. Sikoa tries to talk to Jimmy and get him back in the fold. Jimmy ignores Sikoa and goes up top. In the confusion, Mateo dropkicks Jimmy off the top.

After the break, Mateo lands a standing moonsault. Jimmy surprises Mateo with a Samoan drop. After a strike exchange, Jimmy lands a whisper in the wind. Mateo kicks out. Mateo counters a hip attack with a spinning back suplex. Jimmy kicks out. Jimmy lands a few superkicks and a Spear. While Mateo is out, Jimmy goes up top. Sikoa gets on the apron. Fatu does the same. Mateo tries to hit Jimmy. Jimmy moves, and Mateo knocks Fatu off the apron. Jimmy rolls up Mateo for the win.

Winner- Jimmy Uso

After the match, Mateo yells at Fatu. Sikoa tries to calm it down. Fatu walks away.

Grade: C+

This was a fine TV match with a predictably annoying amount of outside interference. Jimmy picked up a much-needed win here, but having Mateo eat a pin this early in his run is an odd choice. Yes, he has an out because of Fatu’s botched interference, but still. Despite what WWE would have you believe, wins and losses matter, especially for new talent.

Bakersfield Brawl: United States Champion Zelina Vega vs. Piper Niven w/Alba Fyre and Chelsea Green

Niven tosses Vega around the ring. Vega grabs a kendo stick and whacks Niven with it repeatedly. Niven is sent out of the ring. Diving double stomp off the apron by Vega. Vega tries a rana. Niven counters and electric chair drops Vega on the ring apron. After the break, Niven chokes Vega with a chain. Niven curb stomps Vega into the bottom turnbuckle. Niven tries to slam Vega on a chair, but Vega reverses it into a DDT on the chair. Vega lands a moonsault to the outside to take out Niven, Fyre, and Green. Vega goes up top. Niven cuts Vega off.

Vega hits a super Code Red. Fyre breaks up the pin. Green and Fyre beat down Vega. Niven powerslams Vega out on the floor. Vega gets laid on a table. Niven sets up a moonsault off the top. Guilia hops the barricade and double clotheslines Fyre and Green. Vega slips out and tries to powerbomb Niven off the top. Niven puts on the brakes. Guilia hits Niven with a kendo stick. Vega powerbombs Niven through the table. Vega pins Niven.

Winner- Zelina Vega

Grade: B-

This one was surprisingly vicious, with the nasty DDT on a chair spot and Niven obliterating that table while getting powerbombed into oblivion. This one would have had a bit more impact if Green was cleared to compete, but this was still a solid hardcore match. Giulia’s “turn” at the end of the match was hilariously done. Why bother saving Vega? Let her get destroyed and beat her up after. Also, why did it take Green and Fyre so long to interfere in a match with no rules? Whatever, let’s just enjoy the carnage.

LA Knight vs. Aleister Black

Knight and Black trade pin attempts. Knight narrowly avoids a Black Mass. Black and Knight lock up and go corner to corner. Neither man can get an advantage. After Knight gives Black a clean break, Black pushes Knight. Headlock takeover by Knight. Black blocks a DDT but runs into a clothesline. Black kicks out. Knight misses a boot and eats a leaping knee strike. Knight kicks out. Black works over Knight. After a flurry of strikes, Black attempts a springboard. Knight pushes Black over the top and tumbles to the floor with him.

After the break, Black lands a springboard moonsault. Knight ducks a Black Mass and tries a BFT. Black escapes. Jumping neckbreaker by Knight. Pop up powerslam by Knight. Knight sets up the LA Elbow off the top. Black gets a boot up, but Knight blocks it. After a series of reversals, Knight plucks Black off the ropes during a springboard and hits a Burning Hammer. Black rolls out of the ring. Seth Rollins appears out of nowhere and Stomps Knight, causing a disqualification.

Winner- LA Knight

After the match, Rollins sets up another Stomp. Black steps in the way. Rollins backs off. Breakker hits the ring, and Spears Black. Rollins tosses Black out of the ring. Reed teleports into the ring and flattens Knight with a senton.

Grade: B

This one was interesting. After a long feeling-out period, these two put on a hell of a back-and-forth contest. Both Knight and Black shined here. Black’s strikes are vicious, and he didn’t hold back while in the ring with Knight. Knight dug deep into his bag and hit a solid B-level Burning Hammer. It wasn’t Kobashi-esque, but still impressive. Black wasn’t losing here, and Knight wasn’t either, so the line Knight dropped about Rollins before the match was a sign of how this one was going to end. Despite telegraphing the finish, this match was worth watching.

Tiffy Time!

WWE Women’s Champion Tiffany Stratton reminds everyone that she’s a former MTIB winner and that everyone in this year’s match is a contender. Whoever wins, their world will revolve around Stratton. Rhea Ripley interrupts.

Ripley says she’s never been in MITB before because she’s never had to. Ripley doesn’t know what it’s like to pull down the contract, but she knows what it’s like to be a champion, and she misses that feeling. Stephanie Vaquer‘s music hits and the match announcements begin.

Rhea Ripley, Alexa Bliss & Stephanie Vaquer vs. Naomi, Giulia & Roxanne Perez

Vaquer and Giulia start the match. After a series of reversals, Vaquer sets up the Devil’s Kiss. Giulia slips out and lands a curb stomp. Naomi tags in and tries to lock in a Devil’s Kiss of her own. Vaquer reverses it into a pin. Naomi kicks out, but Vaquer rolls Naomi into the Devil’s Kiss. Giulia and Perez try to break it up, but Ripley and Bliss take them both out. Naomi trips Vaquer into the ropes. Vaquer manages to tag in Bliss. Bliss lands a flurry. Tree of Woe dropkick by Bliss.

Bliss dives off the apron and crushes Giulia and Naomi with a senton. Perez tosses Bliss into the ring steps. Perez and Co. work over Bliss. After the break, Bliss manages to tag in Ripley. Ripley clears the ring. Everyone lands a big move. Ripley tries Riptide, but Perez reverses it into a nasty DDT. Naomi hops off the apron as Perez tries to tag. Perez turns around, and Ripley, Vaquer, and Bliss are all standing behind her. Everyone takes turns beating on Perez. Ripley ends it with Riptide for the win.

Winners- Rhea Ripley, Alexa Bliss & Stephanie Vaquer

Grade: B+

This was the best six-women’s tag this writer has seen in a long while, especially on WWE TV. This one was a fast-paced, back-and-forth contest with several amazing near-falls. These six women need to be in the ring together in some combination every week. Naomi leaving Perez to the wolves as a chef’s kiss to end this one. Naomi is crazy, but she ain’t stupid. Naomi looked in the ring and was like, “nah… I’m good.”

Penta and Andrade vs. The Creed Brothers

Penta and Andrade land stereo dives as the Creeds make their way to the ring. Andrade lands a pair of bullet train attacks. Penta follows that with headstand dropkicks in the corner. Julius cuts Andrade off up top with a running knee.

After the break, Gable hops up on the apron and tries to pull off Penta’s mask. AAA Mega Champion El Hijo del Vikingo hops the barricade and attacks Gable. Gable and Vikingo fight to the back. Penta hits the Mexican Destroyer for the win.

Winners- Penta and Andrade

After the match, Rollins, Breakker, and Reed attack Andrade and Penta.

Grade: B

Fun but quick match. Let’s just be happy Penta was able to get the pin before the Rollins and the Funky Bunch attacked.

After the beatdown, Heyman grabs a mic and says they don’t fear the future; they are the future. Heyman reminds the crowd that Rollins has been a prophet so far. Everything Rollins says comes true. They are the Vanguard of this industry. The crowd can boo all they want, but Rollins will become MR. Money in the Bank again. Once Rollins holds all the power, he will propel this industry into a new stratosphere. Cody Rhodes interrupts. Rhodes has a face-off with Rollins and his group. Jey Uso’s music hits and enters through the crowd Logan Paul slips into the ring and attacks Jey and Rhodes.
