John Cena’s final WWE appearance in Boston has been confirmed. However, it won’t be for his retirement match like many expected.
On Friday, WWE confirmed two more dates on Cena’s retirement tour. John Cena will appear on RAW in Boston at the TD Garden on November 10, followed by an appearance on RAW at Madison Square Garden in New York City on November 17.
Tickets for both events will go on sale on Wednesday, September 10 at 10am ET/7am PT. A presale will begin on Tuesday, September 9.
WWE touted TD Garden being the site of two of Cena’s 17 world title victories. The venue is also in his hometown of Boston. Many fans speculated that Boston would be the city where Cena has his retirement match in December, but that will not be the case.
According to The Takedown on SI’s Jon Alba, sources claimed that Boston pushed hard to host Cena’s retirement match. However, WWE allegedly asked the city to cover the costs of hosting it, which it had not previously done for WWE events in the past.
Alba added that Boston made a very strong push for the event. WWE and TKO also want Cena’s retirement match to be a major tourism destination event. However, he pointed out that doing that match in December in Boston near the holidays was not an easy sell.
John Cena is expected to finish up on SmackDown this week
John Cena is advertised for Friday’s episode of SmackDown in Chicago. According to a new report from WrestleVotes, there’s a belief in WWE that the show could be Cena’s final appearance on the blue brand.
“We’re told some within WWE are quietly expecting tomorrow night to be John Cena’s final SmackDown,” WrestleVotes wrote. “According to a source, with only seven remaining dates left—and just two yet to be announced—it’s unlikely another will be a SmackDown event, meaning Cena will have debuted and ended his run on the blue brand in the very same building, Chicago’s Allstate Arena.”
F4WOnline.com’s Bryan Alvarez also reported that Cena is expected to be considered a RAW Superstar after this week.
