Gates of Agony: Receipts And Sonic Rings Videos Are Coming For The Hurt Business

Gates of Agony’s Bishop Kaun and Toa Liona aren’t going to waste an opportunity to make a big impression at AEW All Out.

Kaun and Liona spoke with WrestleZone Managing Editor Bill Pritchard ahead of their match against The Hurt Business. All Out will mark the duo’s first time competing on the main card of an AEW pay-per-view event. Both Kaun and Liona worked their way up through the company, starting on AEW Dark to where they are now. It’s an opportunity they both worked hard for, and it’s just the first step in achieving their main goal.

Bishop Kaun: “I expect this to be brutal, chaotic, fun. Honestly, for us, a vicious fight. We have been here for three and a half years, and this is our first main card pay-per-view match. That’s not lost on either of us, because we have worked so hard. We’ve literally have gone from AEW Dark to being in a group barely featured to being off TV at months at a time to now, reemerging with Ricochet to building this foundation. TV every week. Cutting promos, getting into brawls. This is what we worked so hard for. And I cannot wait to just unleash it all in front of everybody.”

Toa Liona: “Yeah man. Just to piggyback off that, this weekend, we are so ready to show the world what we can do. Because this is just step one. Where we came from, the very bottom to where right now, we are not stopping here. This is just a pit stop on our way to the top. Because, the number one thing, after all this man, we are still looking for that quest for gold. We deserve championship gold and we will get championship gold.”

Gates of Agony say they impressed Ricochet on the spot

Kaun and Liona have been together in AEW and Ring of Honor since 2022. In that time, they’ve been linked with Tully Blanchard Enterprises, The (Mogul) Embassy and Brian Cage. Now, they find themselves aligned with Ricochet, who started looking for his “crew” a few months ago.

Gates of Agony were asked who first pitched the idea of pairing them with Ricochet. Both said that they believe Ricochet saw what they could do, calling it the right time for a great opportunity.

Bishop Kaun: “I don’t think it was a pitch. We really, truly impressed him on the spot. We wrestled Jetspeed, [he was] on commentary, up close, first hand, he saw how good we were. Right after that, he was like, ‘Damn, I knew who these guys were, but I like these guys. They are superstars.’”

Toa Liona: “We took that as an open trial when we heard the promo. We need it. That’s our spot for the taking. Every time we get a TV opportunity following this promo, we’re going to force his hand. That was our mindset. Like, as soon as I put Speedball on his ass, I went right to him and I grabbed him in the shoulder, kind of let him know like, ‘Yeah, we’re here.’ And you know, for him to see potential in us man, after that like… How can you not want two guys that look like us, that are as hungry as us, on your side. So, I feel like, that was the perfect storm at the perfect time.”

Receipts are coming at All Out

Wednesday night’s episode of AEW Dynamite featured a preview of sorts for All Out when Toa Liona faced off with The Hurt Business’s Bobby Lashley. Liona was unsuccessful in getting the win, but the night also saw Ricochet get punched out by MVP at ringside. Adding insult to injury, one fan gave a clip of it the “Sonic Rings” treatment.

Kaun and Liona were mixed in their responses to hearing about the video. However, the one thing they agreed on was that payback is coming on Saturday.

Kaun: “I haven’t seen anything.”

Toa Liona: “Last night was nuts. I seen one from last night when MVP snuck him… Yeah [the video Pritchard mentions]. I swear I saw a coin fly out when I was laying there. I promise you, I was like, ‘Oh!’

Kaun: “Just know, receipts are coming on Saturday. We gonna make videos for each one of those guys. MVP, Shelton, and Bobby.”

Would they go bald to show more cohesion with Ricochet?

Some teams wear matching gear to show unity or cohesion. On a lighter note, Pritchard asked if they would consider shaving their heads to be bald like Ricochet, who has been made the running gag into a great gimmick (and a potentially lucrative opportunity).

Kaun: “You see all this hair that we have? You know how many grown men are balding at age 18? Why would I ever cut off these beautiful locks? Like what? No. I’m going to keep this as long as I can.”

Toa Liona: “Hey come on man. We got sponsorships in the wings, waiting… Stay tuned for the pay-per[view]. You will see a whole new unity of gear and stuff like that. What we have in store. So… I think it’s pretty cool.”

AEW All Out takes place at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Canada on Saturday, September 20, with a start time of 3 pm EST.
