Baron Corbin Wishes He Was A Bigger Part Of The ‘NXT OG’ Conversation

Bishop Dyer hopes his run in NXT as Baron Corbin is more fondly remembered over time.

Dyer recently spoke with WrestleZone Managing Editor Bill Pritchard about his WWE tenure, and if there’s one thing he wishes fans spoke about more. Dyer says he would like to be considered more of an NXT original, like some of the other names that come up. Baron Corbin was part of the brand when it saw breakout success in the early part of the 2010s. He recently voiced his frustrations with being left out of the NXT Homecoming celebration, but understood why it happened.

However, he still wishes fans would at least recognize his contributions to the brand.

“I wish that [I was] considered one of those OGs. I didn’t come from the independents prior to WWE. So, I think that’s why I’m not in that conversation a lot. But it’s like, I was a mainstay on NXT. I was part of building that house. And I think that gets forgotten,” he explained. “I know it was forever ago, but I want to be considered one of those guys that helped bring it to that third brand versus developmental.

“Because I was on the show in Brooklyn, against Samoa Joe, the first sellout for NXT when we went on the road, with 16,000 people at the Barclays Center. So, that’s something I wish was a little more pushed in the topic of conversation is what I brought to NXT there in the beginning.”

Baron Corbin got off to a hot start thanks to Dusty Rhodes

He also credited the late Dusty Rhodes for helping him get over, sharing how the “American Dream” had a vision for him.

“[He] put that whole debut together. I came in with the jobber entrance, no music, and I was standing in the ring. And CJ [Parker] gets the big entrance, comes out, and I beat him in like eight seconds. That was awesome and that was all [Dusty]. The American Dream put that together and had that vision for that,” Dyer explained. “And so, Dusty played a big role in that. But I just think that that’s something I wish was just a topic of conversation a little bit more.”
