Turning Point Results:

Tonight’s Turning Point event kicks off with WWE NXT’s Kelani Jordan defending the TNA Knockouts Championship against M by Elegance.

TNA Knockouts Championship: Kelani Jordan (c) vs. M by Elegance (w/ The Elegance Brand)

  • The finish of the match saw Kelani Jordan hit M by Elegance with the One of a Kind split-legged moonsault to score the pinfall victory.

Winner: And still TNA Knockouts Champion, Kelani Jordan

Grade: C+

Decent opening to the show. I don’t think anyone expected a title change here. They really haven’t done a lot with M by Elegance as a singles star, and this just felt like an excuse to give Jordan another title defense. There are more deserving challengers, but they clearly aren’t ready to do that yet.

Ryan Nemeth annoys everyone

Gia Miller is backstage with The Angel Warriors and Mara Sade, asking what they think of Kelani Jordan retaining the Knockouts Championship. Lei Ying Lee says she has her title shot coming up, but Xia Brookside notes that she’ll be a double champion after they win the Knockouts Tag Team Titles tonight.

They leave to go get ready for their match. Mara Sade says she found herself in TNA, and she hopes that Jordan doesn’t lose herself. Ryan Nemeth comes in and says no one cares about Sade and mocks her hair for being wet. Nemeth complains that his brother is tagging with Kazarian tonight and Sade suggests he doesn’t want Ryan out there acting like a fool. Nemeth complains more about Gia and Mara before leaving.

Did Ava have something to do with the NXT invasion on iMPACT last night?

Santino Marella and Arianna Grace are backstage with NXT General Manager Ava. Marella is heated about what went down on iMPACT. Ava says she knew nothing about this and didn’t sign off on any of it. Marella doesn’t believe her. Ava says she’ll handle her locker room and tells Santino to handle his before storming off.

AJ Francis vs. B.D.E.

  • The finish of the match saw AJ Francis hit B.D.E. with a Down Payment to score the pinfall victory.

Winner: AJ Francis

Grade: B

Fun match. B.D.E. had a solid singles debut for TNA Wrestling and proved he belongs as a member of the roster if the company wants to bring him on full-time. AJ Francis played the monster heel and had a very good performance in this match. This was an entertaining match.

Steve Maclin is ready to go at it alone

Gia Miller is backstage with TNA International Champion Steve Maclin. Maclin admits he hasn’t heard from Mike Santana since yesterday, but if he has to go out and work the main event by himself, so be it. Maclin says his head will be on a swivel, looking out for the NXT PC talent that invaded iMPACT last night. Steve says they picked the wrong person to try to go to war with.

No Disqualification: Indi Hartwell vs. Dani Luna

  • The finish of the match saw Indi Hartwell hit Dani Luna with a Hurts Don’t It on a steel chair to score the pinfall victory.

Winner: Indi Hartwell

Grade: B+

A very fun hardcore match. I know it was labeled no disqualification, but this was a hardcore match in every sense of the word. This was probably Indi Hartwell’s best showing so far in TNA, and hopefully it leads to bigger and better opportunities for her in the future.

Ava offers a make-good to Santino

Backstage, Santino Marella and Arianna Grace are talking, and Ava comes back in to tell Marella that she’s ordered more security for the show tonight to make sure something like last night doesn’t happen again. Marella says he appreciates it, and he bought some cameras at Costco, but he hasn’t set them up yet. It was just a weird back and forth after what we already got from them earlier on in the show.

Tessa Blanchard announces before the next match that she’s not cleared to compete and introduces Crawford’s tag team partner, Mila Moore.

TNA Knockouts Tag Team Championship: The IInspiration (c) vs. Mila Moore and Victoria Crawford vs. The Angel Warriors

  • The finish of the match saw The IInspiration hit the Idolizer on Xia Brookside to retain their titles.

Winners: Still TNA Knockouts Tag Team Champions, The IInspiration

Grade: B-

This was alright. Kinda messy. But nothing really bad. It was kinda just there. I’m happy that The IInspiration retained. Honestly, that’s all that really matters as far as this match is concerned.

The Hardys and Cedric Alexander vs. Mustafa Ali and the Great Hands (w/ Tasha Steelz and Special Agent Zero)

  • The finish of the match saw Mustafa Ali hit Cedric Alexander with a low blow and a rollup to score the pinfall victory for his team.

Winners: Mustafa Ali and the Great Hands

Grade: B-

This match was fine. The finish left a lot to be desired. Nothing about this match really stood out to me. It was kinda just there.

In a move that should surprise no one, Dezmond Xavier (the former Wes Lee) is the mystery partner for The Rascalz in their match against The System.

The Rascalz vs. The System

  • The finish of the match saw Dezmond Xavier hit JDC with a Spiral Tap to score the pinfall victory.

Winners: The Rascalz

Grade: A-

Easily the best thing on the show so far tonight. Everyone worked extremely hard in this matchup, but you really felt like Dezmond Xavier was in there with something extra to prove after being released by WWE. This was a lot of fun. If you don’t see anything else on this show, go out of your way to check this one out.

Eric Young is telling it like it is

Santino Marella is backstage on the phone when he’s confronted by Eric Young. Young blames everything going on right now with NXT on Santino and says WWE holding one of their titles is on him. Young promises that a Cleanse is coming to fix TNA.

TNA X-Division Championship: Leon Slater (c) vs. Rich Swann

  • The finish of the match saw Leon Slater hit Rich Swann with the Swanton 450 to score the pinfall victory and retain his title.

Winner: And still TNA X-Division Champion, Leon Slater

After the match, Gia Miller and TNA pay respect to Leon Slater’s grandmother, who recently passed away. Slater was very emotional about this and did his best to follow it up with a promo for his match next week on NXT when he and Je’Von Evans challenge DarkState for the NXT Tag Team Titles.

Grade: B+

This was a very fun matchup. These two men are incredibly special. Leon Slater has every tool to be a big-time player for TNA and professional wrestling in general for years to come. It’s also nice to see Rich Swann still getting these kinds of opportunities. The man still has a lot to give this business, in my opinion.

Mike Santana doesn’t come out for the main event, so it is now a handicap match.

Handicap Match: Steve Maclin vs. Frankie Kazarian and Nic Nemeth (w/ Ryan Nemeth)

  • Mike Santana pulls up to Full Sail in the middle of the match to join the tag match. The finish of the match saw Santana hit Frankie Kazarian with Spin the Block to score the pinfall victory for his team.

Winners: Mike Santana and Steve Maclin

Grade: B

Mike Santana and Steve Maclin celebrate their victory as Nic Nemeth decides he’s gonna call his shot against Frankie Kazarian. Before he could, everyone from the NXT B-Team who jumped Santana last night returned and attacked everyone, including Kazarian. Santino Marella tries to come out with security to stop it, but they attack him too. This brings out Matt and Jeff Hardy with steel chairs, but they are taken down as well. The NXT B-Team stands tall as TNA Turning Point goes off the air.

TNA Turning Point Review:

After last night’s terrible episode of iMPACT, this event was more of a return to form for TNA. There was a lot of good action on this show, and the roster looked ready to work tonight after having a month off after Bound For Glory. The best matches of the evening came back-to-back between the 8-man tag team match between The Rascalz and The System, followed by the X-Division Championship match between Leon Slater and Rich Swann.

They also seemingly did a good job advancing the Mike Santana storyline that took place online throughout the day. I’m not sure it was enough to make up for last night, but it was at least a step in the right direction. I still think the NXT invasion storyline is stupid. Especially with the “talent” being used to portray them as a threat. It’s just not believable. And the fact that the entire TNA locker room didn’t come out together to run the B-Team off to end the show speaks volumes about the logic holes in the booking of this program.

Stupid nonsensical ending aside, I enjoyed this show overall. But I caution TNA not to get too cute in the coming weeks with this story. I truly hope Tommy Dreamer and Delirious will finally learn from some of their past mistakes and right the ship before they lose any more fans than they already have.

Grade: B
