Our WWE NXT Gold Rush results for tonight include Ethan Page and Chelsea Green defending the AAA World Mixed Tag Team Championship against Joe Hendry and Thea Hail, Je’Von Evans and TNA X-Division Champion Leon Slater challenge DarkState for the NXT Tag Team Championships, Sol Ruca clashing with Blake Monroe for the NXT North American Championship, and in a Last Chance match Jacy Jayne takes on Tatum Paxley for the NXT Women’s Championship. Here’s our review and grades for tonight’s show, live from the Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

AAA World Mixed Tag Team Championship Match: Ethan Page and Chelsea Green (c) vs. Joe Hendry and Thea Hail
Hail and Green trade takedowns. Hail mocks Green, leading to Green tagging out. Hendry and Page trade submissions and takedowns. Green runs into a shoulder block from Hendry. Delayed suplex by Hendry. Green breaks up the pin. Hail tries to lock Green in the Kimura. Green tosses Hail at Page, so she locks Page in the submission hold instead. Hail and Hendry clear the ring. After the break, Green hits the Unprettiher for the win.
Winners and STILL AAA World Mixed Tag Team Champions, Ethan Page and Chelsea Green!
Grade: C+
This match was exactly what it needed to be for a mixed tag affair. Though this writer enjoyed the Mixed Match Challenge from a few years back, the idea of having titles for it is a bit bizarre, but if it’s used as a vehicle to get Page featured on the main roster with Green, then fine.
NXT Women’s North American Championship Match: Blake Monroe (c) vs. Sol Ruca w/Zaria
Monroe goes after Ruca’s previously injured knee. Ruca catches Monroe with an enziguri. Slingblade by Monroe. Sidewalk slam by Monroe. Monroe and Ruca trade slams. Superkick by Ruca. Monroe kicks out. After the break, both women trade big moves. A superkick by Ruca sends Monroe out of the ring. Ruca lands a triangle moonsault, but hurts her knee on the landing out on the floor.
Monroe chopblocks Ruca and locks in a single leg crab. Monroe rips off Ruca’s knee brace and tosses it up the ramp. Ruca rolls Monroe up for a long two count. Ruca’s leg gives out as she tries to stand. Monroe locks Ruca in a modified calf crusher. Ruca refuses to tap out. Zaria throws in the towel. The referee calls for the bell.
Winner and STILL NXT Women’s North American Champion, Blake Monroe!
Grade: B-
Good match, with a way too predictable finish.
The Revolution
NXT Champion Ricky Saints walks to the ring. Before Saints can speak, Oba Femi interrupts. Saints and Femi go back and forth. Femi wants his title back. Saints agrees to give Femi a rematch at Deadline. Trick Williams’ music hits. Williams says it isn’t over until he says it’s over. Myles Borne appears and hits Williams with a chair. Borne says payback is a b*tch and declares he’s going to win the Iron Survivor Match and challenge whoever wins between Femi and Saints.
Grade: B
Good segment, Saints and Femi are both great on the mic. The Williams swerve was a nice touch, as Williams had to try to insert himself into this, but Borne owed Williams a receipt. It all comes full circle.
NXT Tag Team Championship Match: DarkState (Dion Lennox & Osiris Griffin) (c) vs. Je’Von Evans and Leon Slater
Evans lands a dive before the bell rings. Back in the ring, Slater drops Griffin with a big kick. Griffin lands a powerslam. Evans breaks it up with a double stomp. After a rana/dropkick combo, Evans gets a near fall on Lennox. Stereo dives by the challengers takes out all of DarkState.
After the break, DarkState are working over Evans. Evans manages to tag in Slater. Slater clears the ring. Griffin kicks out of Slater’s sky-high crossbody. Evans holds down the ropes while Slater lands a dive. Super cutter by Evans. Frog Splash by Evans. Griffin kicks out. Evans tries to break up a pin with a splash. Lennox moves, so Evans crushes Slater. Evnas gets dumped over the top. DarkState takes out Slater with a Doomsday Device for the win.
Winners and STILL NXT Tag Team Champions, DarkState!
Grade: C+
So… is DarkState working for anyone? No? Didn’t think so.
Last Chance match for the NXT Women’s Championship Match: Tatum Paxley (c) vs. Jacy Jayne
Paxley takes control early. Henley and Reid pull Jayne out of the ring to avoid a charging Paxley. Paxley takes out all of Fatal Influence with a springboard moonsault. After the break, Jayne is working over Paxley. Paxley surprises Jayne with a superkick. Both women are down. A strike exchange ends with Paxley sending Jayne flying with a German suplex.
Dame sends a chair into the ring. Paxley tosses it. Jayne rolls Paxley up. Paxley kicks out. Rollins Encore by Jayne. After a bunch of shenanigans, Vance and Spears stand in front of Paxley outside the ring. Dame destroys Paxley with a big boot out of nowhere. Dame sends Paxley back into the ring. Jayne lands another Rolling Encore for the win.
Winner and NEW NXT Women’s Champion, Jacy Jayne!
Grade: C+
This match suffered from way too much interference. The in-ring between Jayne and Paxley was highly entertaining. With the angle going into this, they were clearly roaring towards the end of the Paxley/Dame relationship, but getting there was way too convoluted.
WWE NXT Gold Rush Review:
Tonight’s show was a bit of a mess. Way too much interference and only semi-fun chaos. At least this show lived up to it’s title, every match had gold on the line, but less is more. Match of ther night was the North American Championship match between Blake Monroe and Sol Ruca. Tell us what you thought of the show in the comments!
