John Cena: I Was Really Happy To See Zack Ryder Return To WWE

John Cena was thrilled to see Zack Ryder’s WWE return.

Speaking on Raw Recap, Intercontinental Champion John Cena addressed Zack Ryder’s (Matt Cardona) return to WWE on last week’s SmackDown to compete in the Last Time Is Now Tournament.

Cena shared that Zack Ryder is one of his close personal friends and that he was glad to see him return to WWE to take part in the tournament. He also praised Ryder for growing his knowledge about the business over the years.

“Man, I was very, very glad to see Zack Ryder come back,” John Cena began. “Matt (Cardona) is a personal friend of mine. I can speak candidly like that, and I’ve seen his mind grow. You want to talk about I was being curious in a quest for growth. With Zack Ryder, I knew from a long time ago, has accrued so much sports entertainment wisdom, and it’s amazing.

“When we have interactions, he’ll tell me about his journey and be like, ‘This is what you were trying to talk about before, and I wasn’t ready to understand it.’ I like rooting for people who are humble enough to admit when they’re wrong and always want to grow, and are doing things for the greater good of the business.

“Matt’s certainly one of those guys, and his wife, Chelsea (Green), is certainly one of those folks who takes an opportunity and makes the absolute best out of it, and I was really happy to see Zack Ryder back.”

Despite making a return on SmackDown, Matt Cardona recently shared that his return as Zack Ryder was a temporary thing.

John Cena Said He’d Rather Leave WWE Now On Top Than Risk Doing Bad Work

Ahead of his final WWE RAW appearance, John Cena once again explained his decision to step away from in-ring competition while speaking on ESPN’s First Take.

John Cena said he would rather leave now on top than stay further and risk doing bad work.

“There’s never been a better time to be in the WWE,” John Cena began, “and that’s from its relationships in the lens and its roster on the field. I think we have the most gifted and the biggest batch of gifted personnel in the ring. They’re doing stuff right now I can never possibly think of, which is why it’s time for me to walk away.

“I still got a little bit left in the tank, as you saw in those highlights. I’m 48, I still look good, I still feel good, I have my health. But I’ve been here for 23 years and operating in a very high capacity, at a very high level, and I really want to pave the way for the future, and I’d rather go now and leave the memories of the audience of like, ‘Man, he always gave his all,’ than risk doing bad work.”
